NEW 16-23 Morimoto XB Evo Headlights are here!

I did send Johnny the harnesses from my Morimoto kit.

However I won't have my truck back until tomorrow because I am getting some undercoat work done on it. So if someone else can snag the measurement that would be ace, or IO can do it tomorrow when I get my truck back

 

@drizzoh did get me the measurements, so we are good. He is also sending me one of the other harnesses as well so I can get a better idea of what Morimoto actually uses vs what is present, but not needed. I appreciate all the help here. I am trying to make the SR/SR5 option for alternate power as clean as I can. Otherwise it would be pretty much one of my conversion harnesses plugged into the morimoto harness and the power relocation harness, and all that adds up to 4-5 connectors that aren't really needed.

 

Maybe they are labeled correctly and just my truck was weird. Unsure why my factory trd led drl headlights only wanted to connect with the 3 prong harness, but everything worked without needing to tap anything. That harness labeled in the instructions does mostly match up with my factory headlights with the exception of there being 1 extra plug, maybe it's for that heatsink? But for whatever reason those same plugs weren't in the bay when I removed my gen2's to install the Evo's. I don't have any other headlights mods aside from a tap to steal the drl signal to power my fog lights, but that had no effect on this install and it's only on one side. So weird. Maybe there's an adapter that the gen2's used that I didn't notice was still installed that made the trd halogen setup work properly with them. Anyways, no issues and everything worked as it should.

 

Anyone else getting occasional hyperflash with blinkers? Just discovered I get it only on left side blinker when tapping the brakes or letting off and hitting brakes again. Doesnt do it with right turn signal.. I also have the Morimoto tails and 3rd brake light with flasher module. Along with a diode dynamics hitch light with brake and flasher module installed. Wondering if the 3rd brake light or hitch light is affecting that. Or something else. No idea. Will unplug the hitch light and see if that does it. Not sure what else to do to diagnose it. Could the resistor for the heads be partially faulty and cause intermittent issues like that? Guess I could swap them from side to side and see if it switches.

 

At first instinct it sounds like the resistor on the LH side may have poor connectivity. We’re discussing it now and one of us may have other suggestions soon, BUT yes swapping just the resistors would help isolate.

 

Having trouble with my new XBs. 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD OR 4x4 light set up from factory is halogen with LED drl.

Current issue: low beams on driver side do NOT run.
High beams turn on for both sides, the lights run through the start up sequence, then the drivers side low beams turn off afterwards. Drivers Red LED is on and solid.
I’ve checked the 10 amp Low beams fuses for continuity and they’re good. I’ve checked continuity to the fuse tap prongs and they’re also good.
I’ve switched the wire harnesses and the issue persists on the drivers side.
Only thing I ran out of time to do today is swap the headlights from one end to the other. Any suggestions?

Going to reach out to Morimoto in the morning, because I’m in California and I bought them direct… but of course they’re eastern time and I was running up til around 6pm when I finally got it to this point. FML

Found a loose brown wire in the housing that went to the four pin connector inside of the LED drivers.
However, now the low beams turn turns on, but only one of the two projectors turn on specifically, the outer most beam on the drivers side. Weird

 

Yoshi is also in California. Not to worry, we’ll help get it figured out!

 

I sure hope so, I was very excited to get these in for the wet season, but now I’m a bit worried that I’ll have to send it back.

 

Update: sending Morimoto support photos and videos. They said that they might just warranty them out. Here’s to hoping!

 

So I did a little testing today. It is indeed linked to activating the brakes. But it sometimes can be random and hyperflash when it wants too. I swapped the resistors between driver and passenger and the hyper did swap to the opposite side. I'll also note that they hyperflash immediately when the truck is in the on position but not running(both sides). When truck is running they only hyperflash under certain circumstances, usually when the brake is already applied, then reapplied immediately after release.

 

Bout how long does it typically take for Morimoto To get back to you on a customer support issue? Sent out info last week, and haven’t heard back yet….

 

I will check with the team who is handling the case, sorry I wasn't around here much Loose wire seems to be a manufacturing error CS hasn't respond yet?. I will poke them what's going on @NightProwler about brake / hyper flash issue, swap resister made issue follow indicating some insufficient load at that resister. What's the tail light you are running? stock? Share a list up findings, I will forward them to the team to assign CS

 

Running the morimoto tails as well as the morimoto 3rd brake light with flash module.

 

Thanks, have you submitted all vehicle information to the team? if not, vehicle trim model year and harness type used plz. If you already have, let me figure out what's going on with CS. I will follow up with the CS team tomorrow morning to check if the case has been assigned or not.

Thank you! Sent the info to service@morimotoHID.com, and while I can’t recall the CS tech I was working with, I last spoke with someone on Friday morning. After providing all the steps taken on my end, they requested a photo/video of my issue and told me I’d expect to get someone to send me a return label as soon as they could review my emails.
I didn’t hear back and I don’t want to assume that my issue is of any greater priority than anyone else’s, and I’m also aware that the team probably has a lot on their plates as well. If you or the CSteam member that is handling the case has any update, I am happy to provide anything else needed from my end and if possible, would like to know the soonest that I should expect to be able to send back the headlights to get the ball rolling on the shipping end. That will take the longest I’m sure.
