    Nice!

I got my brake job done Saturday afternoon. Had to take advantage of the nice weather.

Towards the end of my Florida trip, the passenger side pads wore through to the metal. I thought I heard the squealers once or twice. I guess I should have checked. This rotor was shot:

I had to tap it with a mini sledge to get it loose. I replaced it with a coated PowerStop rotor. Not because I thought it was better, but it was half the price of OEM, and way cheaper than any locally available aftermarket rotors.

Did the pads on both sides. Now I'm considering swapping the driver's side rotor to match.

I'd say you got your money's worth out of that rotor. :)

If you don't turn the rotors, you should replace them whenever you do pads.

And that one rotor is just a little scary

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
If I'm replacing one rotor, I'm replacing two.

I've actually had them get worse than that. When I was younger, I really did not take great care of my vehicles. I am still not the best, but much better than I was then.

I've never had rotors machined. If the brakes are pulsing, or they look like the one in the picture, I'll replace them. Otherwise, I just leave them alone. The rear rotors would probably both be fine if I hadn't waited so long to do the pads.

I generally prefer to replace them in pairs as well.

I was actually going to order two. But, if I tried to order two I could not get them in time. So, I just ordered the one and figured I'd order the other one later. I'll probably order it in the next couple of days and then swap it out the next nice day when I have a little time.

Rotors are cheap. It’s way easier to just replace them than monkey with machining them.

I need to do at least the front brakes on my tundra this spring. Don't think they are that bad yet but between being a chonker and a tow pig with 75k miles i think its time.

When you're a broke High School kid, it's cheaper to have them turned. lol

Every time I’ve had a place quote a brake job, it’s nearly the exact same price for the labor of turning rotors and the cost of a replacement rotor

My first car was $300.

It was an early 90s Hyundai Excel hatchback. Had a busted shifter cable so second and fourth gears didn't work. My buddy and I figured out that we could fix it so I got a sweet deal on it. It actually wasn't a bad car other than being flimsy and slow. But, about 2 months after I got it, the dealership my buddy was working at had an 85 Celica, stick shift, and I got that for $400 I think. It had some issues, but that car was cool. It had a 22RE in it, which was not fast, but it had a lot of torque for such a light little car.

If the shop machines them while they're on the vehicle, it turns a full axle brake job into like a 20 minute walk in the park.
