The excessive glue is fairly normal with NA caps. The three piece roofs have been kicking out some gaskets. Its the window that is NOT NORMAL, rest assured we will get it all fixed up for you.

Ive been looking to add a rack but was not wanting to spend $800+ for a rack to not have it fit flush with my other rack. I ended up buying 4 load bars from my work, they are from
Leitner Designs. I had to cut them down in size and am working on cutting out some end caps. Pretty happy with how it has come out so far. My cost was about $200. Next on the list is 270 awning!

I had a leaking smartcap myself. My seals were from a bad batch that RSI sent out with the caps sent to the USA. Those foam seals are junk. The new set they sent out to my installer were a more rubberized material, all leaks are gone. I do not have any of the putty your showing but it’s probably to seal leaking issues. One of my windows opens hard too but is getting better with use. Delaminating window is definitely not normal.

I have magnets holding my lights, wiring, and air tools... nope, no magnetic dust.

Do these magnets seem strong enough to secure wiring on the outside of the truck? Vibration, wind gusts at speed etc? I’ve been thinking of getting some to tidy up my external GMRS radio antenna wiring. Though I may have trouble removing my 4 year old duct tape :) . Thanks.

Just went out to the truck to test as it has been a while since I touched them. Yes! Plenty strong enough for wires. Even tested a spare one on the outside.

Edit: They are slightly smaller than a diameter of a quarter and a 2 gauge wire can just fit in the groove.

Thanks. I think they can handle about 1/4” diameter wire which is pretty close to my coax antenna wire.

Anyone else having issues with the latches? I'm on my second set. Gen 2s. Smartcap is saying there was another manufacture defect causing failure and they are going to send out the Gen1s again (that failed previously).

Yes. One particularly is hard to pop open. Dealer says a full set is supposed to come my way. He said that several weeks ago. Haven't heard diddly.

Yes, I have the new style latches with inside open buttons. When it was cold outside if I hit the door by the latch they would just pop open. I have to contact the place where I bought the cap and talk to them about the problem.

    Stock at the moment!
    Hey everyone,

First post for me here. I picked up a new Smartcap last month and have had it sitting the garage since because the rubber gasket that seals it to the truck wouldn't even begin to stick to the cap. I even tried hitting the adhesive with a blow dryer to soften it a bit. It's to the point where it would just roll over even on the long straight edges. There's no way I could flip the cap for install without it all hitting the ground. I reached out to RSI and they sent me another one with the exact same issue. I reached out again today to see what the deal is, but the person I spoke with asked if I could bring it to a dealer for install, but that's just not possible for me due to transport requirements.

Has anyone ran into this issue? All of the installs I've watched have shown it strongly adhere to the cap, and I can't even get mine started. I really can't wait to install this thing, so this has been a bit of a drag.

Make sure to clean the area with alcohol and use superglue every 9 inches. Let the superglue setup before trying to flip the cap.

Thanks for firing this over so quickly! I made sure to diligently clean the surface with isopropyl but the manual hadn't mentioned the super glue part aside from use on the end pieces, so I can see this helping to ensure that it'll stay in place during the install. (probably a dumb question, but) That additional glue on the surface wouldn't affect warranty at all? I'm tip-toeing a bit because it's a such an expensive piece of the kit.

My manual might be slightly different because it's for a 6' bed GMC Canyon. This thread is an awesome RSI resource though!

The rest of the assembly was a breeze, and I'm super happy with the build. Thanks again for your time! Cheers

The super glue will not affect the warranty.

So guys any word on the new dual release latches coming as a standalone yet? This is my yearly check-in to see if they are available yet. Literally been waiting for years for these...

I’m having the same problem with the locks popping open while locking. It’s really disappointing as these are the 2nd attempt at these locks. Made multiple adjustments and it hold for a little while before failing again.

    Nothing crazy!
Have you tried to turn the key to lock position while the lock is still open and push it in afterwards? That’s how I lock mine. I used to have the same problem, but it stopped after I started locking it this way.
