Driver Side Grab Handle Mod

Today I finished a mod that I've wanted since day one with my truck. I was sad there wasn't an easier option but after grinding, cutting and welding new spacers... I now have a strong and functional driver side grab handle.

Looks good though! I’d possibly take yours over the ktjo, depending on how it’s installed. I love a good diy

 

I've seen those but they seem to be sold out. I probably would have ordered that instead if there were in stock. But there are a lot of negative reviews of the handle and the manufacturer. And this way I saved money, costed me probably less than $50, most of the cost was the grab handle itself from Tacoma Lifestyle.

 

Isn't this an airbag location ?... I could be wrong.... that would make twice in my lifetime I was wrong about something...

 

Lol! That is a fair concern. The airbag itself is not located there, it is located along the window side of the trim lengthwise. The airbag is designed to blow out the plastic and deploy along the window. To my knowledge, this mod does not interfere with the airbag or it's functionality.

That's cool! Thanks for sharing. I could pretty easily build and sell a kit similarly to how Jason is doing for 4 Runners in that post. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that wants a driver grab handle!

 

I scored a brand new one on FB for $85 and install was a breeze, no issues. Very sturdy and the match is nearly perfect.

I know right, this was a few years ago. Guy bought it and totaled the truck, so he never got to install it. I got the ice blue bowl lights new in the box that match the dash lights too and an OEM safe for the console for another $100. Huge score!

 

Shut up and take my money!
