    I'm new to Taco's. I just put a deposit down on a 2025 trd off road hybrid with premium package.
    I was never interested in the 2nd or 3rd gen because of how it looked, as it was not appealing to me but the new gen looks very aggressive and it has the power to back it up.

    My other vehicles are 2015 BMW X5 Msport with all the bells and whistles which I still currently own and maintain. My wifes car is a Subaru Forester.

    I wouldn’t call the 4g Tacoma powerful, just better than previous years.

    Coming from a BMW X5 with 320 HP and 320 TQ SUV... I would say the hybrid with 326 HP and 465 TQ is plenty of power..

    The BMW should be closer if not lower than a six second 0 to 60. A hybrid Tacoma is gonna be over seven.

    No offense, but this is exactly why some of us say toyota has lost their base. May I ask given you having an X5 your sudden interest or need in a truck besides "looks aggressive."

    I'm not sure what you are implying but are you saying you need to meet a certain criteria to purchase a mid size pick up?
    I wanted a 3rd recreational vehicle for all of my outdoor activities.

    Most of the reviews I've read recommend skipping the hybrid Tacoma. The fuel savings is negligible and the 0-60 time is actually quicker for the gasser. There are only 7 THs on Fuelly, but the average MPG of those trucks is 16 and change. Very little reason to get a hybrid Tacoma, IMO.

    The Tacoma Hybrid was never about MPGs or 0-60 time.

    I wasn’t t sure either so I went to my local dealership to test drive both the non hybrid and then the hybrid back to back. The low end power is noticeably better on the hybrid. I personally don’t trust reviews because most are crap with biased information with their own personal incentives. I don’t understand the mentality of 0-60 mph here. If I was more focused on speed I would be looking at ranger raptor or Mustang GT’s. These are trucks.

    326HP and 465Lb FT of TQ. Any fuel savings is just an added benefit. This is not a Prius and a totally different hybrid system.

    Re mpgs: Hybrids roll out of the factory with bigger tires. So not quite direct comparision. If THs are part of the Fuelly database, one has to consider how loaded down they are. Toyota said we could do it and dang gum we are going to do it. I needed to upgrade my rear springs and get 16-17 mpg around home base.

    Toyota has always said they aren't chasing the leaderboard. Ford's history has always been about power and speed. Ranger Raptor is the choice for that was the design goal.

    Was cross shopping between used 2nd gens and new 3rd gens when I bought my 16 in nov 2015. The interior, tech and styling won me over for sure.

    465 tq at 1700 rpm isn’t powerful? That’s more than the previous gen tundra with the 5.7 liter v8.

    They gave use the torque curve of a diesel, the same thing Tacoma buyers have been fantasizing about for decades. Without the problematic aspects of new diesel engines but giving us the top end and refinement of a gas powertrain. While getting better efficiency than the old N.A. engines. For truck stuff, hauling, off-roading, towing. That torque is a game changer.

    A bit out of topic, but it's funny how the tables turned.

    I remember when people were bashing on the 3rd gen when the 3rd gen first came out. The looks (grill is too big), the "minivan motor" 3.5 V6 and how it won't hold up to the stresses of a truck, the additional tech it comes with, and it is more expensive.

    Now the 3rd gen is everyone's darling and the 4th gen gets the bashing.
