Yeah, I thought the same with being close to houses. If you are able to do some scouting that would be fantastic!

For sure, I’m on it! Will report back this weekend.

If you don’t hear back from me it’s because I’ve accidentally glued my thumbs together with my new toy…

I can see where that would be bad, especially if y'all like going pew pew....

Rail X across the highway used to be a good pew pew spot. The area is a little more developed now but you can still get lost enough back there.

So is this an out and back kinda trail? Hate to say I'm on the fence, but I may need to help the ole man move outta the shop. Plus side I'll have two Lincoln glue guns to take home and the plasma table.

We'll miss you if you cant make it, but it's understood. The trail is a point to point but the start and finish are maybe 15 miles apart.

Are you bringing home a Mag drill by chance?

Haha, Kiddo? He's about the same age as you...

We had a great time! We had a small group of 3
    IMG_20250315_195940_641.jpg

Made it up the right side of that waterfall off of the box canyon trail. The one I failed on the night run you were there for. I was stoked for that! Tanner has more on his phone that I need to get, but here's one random.

Here is what I found scouting camp locations today.

    Viable options for Friday night:
    Trailhead area ~ 32°31'08.2"N 110°52'59.4"W
    https://maps.app.goo.gl/PhTBTHVREqxkp1E18?g_st=com.google.maps.preview.copy
    Pros: right next to trailhead
Cons: not a lot of space and it was quite busy when I was there this morning, including a RV, so will probably have neighbors. Staging area was packed. Also only a few hundred yards from houses across the street

    Rail X ~ 32°31'02.3"N 110°56'30.9"W
    https://maps.app.goo.gl/77yDmb1x7nXs4A6A7?g_st=com.google.maps.preview.copy
Pros: lots of space and options if this spot is taken
Cons: about 10 min from trailhead (although gas and grocery are on the way), and I saw a handful of mountain bikers out there as well as a few other campers, but not nearly as busy as the trailhead

    Viable options for Saturday night:
    West of Peppersauce ~ 32°32'14.2"N 110°43'13.7"W
    https://maps.app.goo.gl/tUEodqfBqYd48MHH6?g_st=com.google.maps.preview.copy
Pros: pretty, good tree cover and close to other attractions (this is the first 1/2 mile of the rice peak trail, close to Peppersauce cave and back road to mt lemmon)
Cons: ~30 min from end of trail and in the wrong direction for getting home. Only a few spots big enough for a group and would be tough to pivot if they are taken and I’ve seen it pretty busy here in the past

    Willow Springs ~ 32°36'48.9"N 110°52'21.6"W
    https://maps.app.goo.gl/yJftEy165Sspm4jv7?g_st=com.google.maps.preview.copy
Pros: saw the least amount of people here and is in the right direction if you are going to take 79 or I-10 home
Cons: ~20 min from end of trail and didn’t find a lot of spots big enough for a group but there should be options if y’all want to look over the map more

I’d probably recommend rail X and willow springs but none are a bad choice. For either Friday spot getting there early will be key, which I should be able to do.

This is awesome, thank you for scouting! I think we'll go with your recommendations. Rail X for Friday and Willow Springs Saturday.

I'll update the first post when I get another free minute.

Sweet, looking forward to it! Please add that both spots are state trust land so permit preferred.
