I 'inherited' a 2015 Tacoma access cab TRD with 90k miles and I've noticed that the brakes on this thing are SUPER sensitive and grabby. Just a slight press on the brake pedal and it's like Goliath grabbing the truck and stopping it in it's place. It's especially noticeable at slower speeds.

It's actually my brother-in-laws truck and we're taking care of it (and him) and my first time driving it was yesterday. I'm not sure of the pad replacement history or what components were used.

    Anybody else notice this?

Any chance it's an off road model with electric booster instead of vacuum?

Open the hood at look? If you're familiar with what a normal brake booster looks like, this will be different.

Seems like I've read folks with this type booster often have some adjusting to do with their foot to smooth out the braking.

What does the brake fluid reservoir look like? Is it full? Color?

Yes, I'm familiar with normal brake boosters (but apparently not well enough!). This one has a huge reservoir with a gigantic wire loom going into a box to the side of the reservoir. There is no round brake booster that I normally see. The ABS line are coming out below the reservoir.

So, I guess, yuppers, it's an electronic brake system.

Guess I got some adjusting to the foot work to do!!!

    Thanks for the help!!!

Yeah, and mine with the 6-piston big brake kit, I can lock up the fronts on the highway when I get cut off…

I too have a TRD-OR and they are grabby. Easily the biggest thing I don't like about the truck.

Each time I have searched this I was told it was normal. I've driven an FJ cruiser with the electric booster and it's not grabby.

Same for me (2014 OR). No matter how lightly I press it grabs. I wish there was some fix or adjustment, it's super annoying!

My 2015 TRD Off Road (85k-ish miles) has terrific brakes. No grabbing at all. When I had the pad replaced about 10-15k miles ago we put in Akebono pads. Superb. Better pedal feel than the OEM pads and excellent braking performance.

You get used to it. I now feel like regular cars have super spongy brakes.

My 2015 OR when new seemed very grabby to me. Over time either it has gotten better or I've just gotten used to it. I actually only very occasionally drive my truck, a few times a year at most (<40k over ten years now), so apparently I've kind of learned to adjust to it and the muscle memory persists. Sort of like learning the idiosyncrasies of a particular clutch on a particular vehicle - at first it seems very jerky, but then you learn the narrow range where it engages and it begins to seem normal.

2015 TRDOR, was grabby when I first got it but I grew accustomed to it. Grabby completely went away when I swapped pads and rotors last year.
