Receiver hitch storage solution.

Got my trailer hitch storage issue solved.
I used an RV bumper mount receiver and mounted it to the bed track.
Track inserts were found on Amazon.
Very solid too.
BTW. This won't work with the OEM receiver hitch. It is too short and the pin won't fit. Unless, you drill a new hole in the mount.

RV bumper hitch. There are receiver hitch mounts available, but they are cheap sheet metal. Cost just as much as the RV hitch.

 

It’s almost like the truck comes with a built in place to store a hitch…

 

I just toss mine under the back seat, but glad you found what works for you.

 

Do people not steal receiver hitches where you live? That makes it way to easy.

No under seat storage in the TH.

 

I can always use a locking hitch pin.

 

Just use a locking pin. You can get them as cheap as $10.

 

I think that would be a great idea. I use a locking pin when my hitch is in my receiver and the trailer isn't hooked up. They seem to disappear quickly.

 

Done it plenty of times, it’s great. It always seems to happen more after I grease the ball too.

 

This is the truth. You'll never trip over a dry hitch, but the greasiest hitch in the world is the one you will smack into.

The (small) risk in leaving the hitch in the receiver, especially considering this is a frame mounted receiver, is that it provides substantially more leverage if you scrape it, bump it or hit it from the top or bottom.

 

I was leaving my hitch under the seat when I got the truck.

But then I thought about what if I have a rollover accident and that hitch is flying around in the cab with me???

So I bought a locking hitch pin.

I like this solution too though, and with a locking pin, the theft concern isnt so bad.

This. People dont often think of all the potential missiles inside the cab. Like a tool bag on the passenger seat. Or even better, an open top toolbag...
