    From what I see, yes.
It "looks" like the size is plenty big enough.
Everything about the pictures scream "connection issue".

As for the 4 wire trailer connector. NO.
That is not going to be big enough to carry the amperage that recharges the battery.
At least not in my opinion.

Where can I get the OEM connector from? Maybe John Deere? I know some of the older model parts are discontinued. I don’t know about this.

Good luck. The 150 I had was a good mower, but I upgraded to an x585 w/ FEL. Have fun.

So I am being told to disconnect the two outer wires on the voltage regulator because these just have to do with a safety engine shut off. Here is the post. Is this correct? IMG_2257.png

If the shunt relay is working properly, the wires should not get hot.
When you turn the key off. The shunt relay places a load on the stator, with in turn places a load on the engine.
If the shunt relay is bad, wired incorrectly, or the wrong relay is used, then there is a continues load on the stator and wires.
This can cause the issue you are having.

I'd just cut shunt relay wires and call it done.
All that will happen is that the engine doesn't stop as fast when you turn the key off.

It will be the Brown wires you need to cut.
NOT THE WHITE WIRES. The white wires are what charge the battery.

In your case, you may need to trace the wires to the shunt relay, since someone has fooled with the wiring.

On the 2 outside pins of the regulator, there will be 2 wires on each pin.

One wire on each of the outside pins of the regulator will go to the 4 pin connector.
Those should be the ones to the Shunt Relay. Cut those.

The other 2 wires should be going to the engine.
As long as you don't cut the wires that are going to the engine, you should be fine.
(if you did, the battery won't charge)

The center pin on the regular sends power to the battery. (Charge wire).
    Don't touch it......

So the wire I circled and the wire behind the one I have an arrow on (can’t see on the pick) there are 5 wires in total.IMG_2243.jpg
This is the wire that is frying the white plug. Never mind the red circle here was for a different question

In this picture, It look like you have 3 wires coming out of the LEFT pin. Pin #1
    If so, that is wrong.

    It should be,

Pin 1 has 2 wires. (- One going to the engine. The other to the white connector-
Pin 2 has one wire - Charge wire
Pin 3 has 2 wires. -One going to the engine. The other to the white connector-

    We need to start there.
Because if it isn't wired correctly, cutting the wire won't help.
(well, it will if we cut the right ones) But we need to know what ones are the right ones.)

For now, lets see what we are working with.

I guess what we (I) need to know, is where each wire is going.
And how many wires each pin has.....

I like it…looks like we are headed in the right direction. So I am going to Greenmark, a John Deere supplier, after work to get a belt and filter. Should I pick up anything to replace these parts? Or is cutting these wires sufficient?

Cutting the correct ones should be fine.
I mean, the burnt connectors are no ideal.
But as long as they make contact, they should be fine.

OK so I removed the duct tape. connector is definitely toast. I also found more wires that have butt connectors on the other side of the lawnmower and they have them nut screwed toogether for some reason. I do have a small engine shop that has a used wiring harness. I talked to John Deere. They have them new for about 400 bucks. They said it’s plug-in play. the used ones about 55. so I don’t know whether to go that route or just cut the wires that you are referring to. I personally would probably like to replace the whole thing. That would make sense.IMG_2262.jpg IMG_2263.jpg IMG_2264.jpg

Wow.....That's the typical backyard hack stuff that I hate seeing.
You got a lot rewiring to do.
If you can get a used harness for $50. That may be the easiest route.
