With any battery powered vehicle at auction there is about a 99% chance the batteries are nuked.

    :nuclear:

People don't care for them properly when they depend on them, no chance they would send a good battery to auction.

I gave up on auctions some time ago. There are just too many peeps with "fuck you" money.

Auctions are all about knowing what you are looking at and perhaps more important, waiting.

I have waited all day and rolled home with some great stuff or had the opening bid be more than my max.

I do buy some silly stuff  -- but I'm cheap too. ;)

Something I am fairly good at is deciding that I will pay $XXX for the item before the bidding starts and not one dollar more.

People get caught up in the idea of "beating" the other bidder and good judgement goes out the window.

back to my atv rant... i think $500-ish for that amalgamation of assumed-dead parts is reasonable. $1100 for that is insane to me..

i stopped going to farm auctions anymore. used to be my brother and i would go for a nice time. we'd let the real farmers fight over the big equipment that needed a trailer to remove, but be able to pick up the small/uninteresting stuff for a few bucks.

the last farm auction we went to literally everything went into a bidding war. an empty 4'x8' big-bolt bin(something like 20 divided spaces, and clearly used since the early 1920's, there was very little paint or straight panels left) went for $6,000. a 10 year old craftsman 2 gallon oil-less compressor and a few rotted extension cords on a pallet cleared $300. we left shortly after, it wasn't worth the time to stand around watching everyone flash their cash.

ebay has become very much the same.

back in the early 2000's, i used to constantly peruse the 'broken' listings, especially after christmas. i got deep into r/c cars for a while simply off that. kids would get $400+ models for christmas, wreck them in the post-holiday excitement in the house, then immediately list them for auction, which typically went for around $70-150. another $40 in parts, and it'd be brand new again...

That’s pretty cool. Nothing like having family stuff past to the next generation.

It's Thursday, let's get out there and do something pretty good - as long as it doesn't take too much effort. ;)

I was 10 minutes late getting into work, didn't have time to pack a lunch, wasn't going to eat the sketchy pot luck so I ended up skipping lunch and didn't eat for 24 hours. I've had better days.
