Anyone know where it gets its power?

I've got a camera tapped into it that doesn't give me a signal.

When I think power antenna, I think up and down telescoping antenna. :anonymous:

Yes, the shark fin does have a very small power wire that leaves the radio head with an associated coax. I "believe" it is the AM/FM antenna. Shark fin also has a cellular and a GPS antenna. Neither of which I believe requires power.

Thus, it is powered by the radio head. I would not expect it to supply much more power than it needs itself. Why did you select this source of power?

EDIT: Also add the Satellite radio antenna too, to the shark fin.

Perhaps if the truck goes off a bridge into the ocean and the fellow is surrounded by sharks
he'd rather grab the shark-fin-power and suffer electrocution rather than be devoured by a shark....

That was the recommended tap for the front camera installation instructions.

My previous responses were assuming a Stock configuration. I thought this was a dash camera attached near the rear view mirror (not a grill camera) with the power taken off the shark fin power in the head liner. Please clarify just what you have done and specifically where.

The stock antenna power wire is BLACK from the stock radio all the way to the shark fin. The small write up in your link calls out other colors of wires and the requirement of specific aftermarket radio heads - not the stock radio.

I'm tapped into the blue antenna power wire coming off the head unit. It's labeled "FM power" or something similar, I don't have everything torn apart into the moment. If that's fused by the head unit, I'm guessing that's not my issue as the radio does work. I just wanted to confirm if there was a separate fuse in the cab or under the hood.

Do you have a stock or aftermarket head unit?

From the link the OP provided: "Vehicle must be equipped with Sony 9000ES, 8500, 9500ES or Alpine Head Unit"

I’ve got an 8500. The camera worked for a few months, then quit. Seller sent me a replacement, but it’s having the same issue. Trying to figure out if it’s power or wiring at this point.

There is no "power antenna" fuse in the Tacoma, even with a stock head unit...that power is sourced by the head unit itself in both cases, as mentioned in another reply in this thread.

Other than 110% verifying your wiring (especially the camera ground), and that the power antenna lead is enabled in the 8500 setup menu (and supplying voltage), sounds like the vendor owes you another camera.

ETA: Also verify your RCA connections, as they could be just as much at fault as no power to the camera.
