SR5 vs Off-Road (for my dad)

Hey first post - came here to ask for input. I work for a Toyota plant and get a pretty stellar lease deal on Tacos (drive a Tundra myself). My retired father has came around to the idea of getting a Tacoma after driving Fords for his entire life lol.

The CHEAPEST lease deal I can get him is a SR5 4x4 double cab, add in heated seats and a full size spare and he's perfectly content with that. But, for like $40 more a month I can get him a TRD Off-Road. He doesn't care about off-road features but I think he'd dig the larger 14" screen - my question is what other things would make the OR worth the extra cash?

He really is a simple fella and just needs a truck, I'll pay the difference for the OR if I can justify it. I think blind spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors are a nice luxury he would enjoy and has never had before. But that's available on SR5 now, correct?

    TIA!

The tech will be to much for an old timer .. stick with basic and simple ..

Nothing wrong with an SR5, BSM is nice but I really don’t think he’d like the 14 inch screen? I’m older and wanted nothing to do with a tablet size display! Parking sensors can very well pay for themselves? However I did get the OR with the upgrade pkg. (8 in screen)

Not all TRDs have the large screen. I chose an SR5 with upgrade/cold weather over a base Off Road. They were priced similar, but the SR5 is better equipped.

The 14" screen is an option, all TRD ORs don't come with them.

I'm laughing at this "old farts don't like tech," comments. I'm 73, and dig the crap out of my 14" screen and everything else with this spaceship.

I'd say the biggest difference between the 2 is going to be the ride...I had almost every trim level in the 3rd gen. The Off-Road had the best ride of them all. If you're not concerned about the ride. Get an SR5 with upgrade package (BSM, parking sensors front and rear, heated mirrors)

All the blind spot, bumper sensors is available in the sr5 with upgrade package.
That is a very nice feature to prevent hitting everything as we age.....

I hate that the small screen has the big margin around it making maybe 80% the size of the big screen. At 63 I like the big screen - I like the tech. OR ride is better as mentioned above.

Why not let your father decide. Either way, your father should be very proud of you.

    Drastic change of plans

We priced them out tonight and I was explaining if we went 2WD - he could get a lot more bells and whistles. His reply was something like "I don't need 4wd, that's just what you told me would be cheaper." My bad...

So, I built him a TRD Sport 2wd DC and payment was basically the same as the SR5 4wd we had originally decided on. I told him he'd have more color options as well now and it turns out bronze oxide was his favorite color on the lot when he looked previously, "but it wasn't available on all models". Long story short, placed the order tonight for a 2wd Bronze TRD Sport with pretty much every option and accessory available. I'm as excited as he is lol. Been trying to get the family in a Toyota for nearly 20 years now.

Thanks for the input. (*do all TRD Sports have either the blue or WHITE dash trim??)

He'd probably prefer an SR XtraCab.

Smart move. A loaded 2WD Sport appears to be the perfect fit for your father. Bronze Oxide is surely one of the nicest colors.

Correct. Just a 2 year lease and where we live, outside of the occasional once per year snowfall, 4wd isn't really needed for him. Agreed on resale value though, valid point if we were purchasing.

    Thanks for the feedback.
