gears for rear differential

Hey guys, I was always interested about switching out gears in the rear differential to save gave and increase power. Does that really work or are the stock factory gears just fine. Please let me know what is the best set up and how effective would it be and of course the cost. Thanks in advance

what size tires do you have?
Whats the specs on your truck? SR5? TRD offroad? Auto, manual? Prerunner or 4x4? etc

 

my truck is a trd offroad, sr5, 6 inch lift, supercharged, manual, 4x4. I was hoping to alternated between 33 inch tires (for highway) and 37 inch tires (for off road)

 

Your going to have a hard time accomodating for both

 

Your going to be extremely over geared geared for the 37 or way under geared geared for the 33, you going to have to settle for a medium, which you might not be happy with.

 

Fixed But this is true. Go 35s for a happy medium. Plus 37s are going to rub way too much to be useful off road. Unless you do long travel in the front and glass fenders allround like a guy on TTORA did.

Actual i dais Oy right-hand just confusing. Your over geared when geared for the 37 while you run the 33 and under geared geared for the 33 running the 37. That's gotta make more sense I hut forgot to add a little info.

$2000 to swap front and rear gears +/-. so. at $4/gallon,thats500 gallons of gas you could buy instead, at say 15 mpg and go 7500 mi. bottom line is you cant really spend money on an offroader to make up for high gas prices.
Focus more on combined trips, drive less, and working with what you have imo. Gearing to lower r.p.ms lower might not get you better mpg too.
What if it gained you only +1 mpg, I doubt youll get 3mpg. If your RPM at 65 was say 3000 rpm now, then you have a chance to gain mpg, if its more like 2200 rpm now, I wouldnt be surprised if it didnt help any but went lower mpg.
