The Dobinsons should be “only” 2200 or so. Not that it’s cheap or much better than 3500…

If I get around to swapping the fluid I’ll let you know if that helps a lot. That’ll be about 2-300 for parts and fluids.

If you already have leaf springs its "only" around $2500 and 100% worth it. You can't get better suspension for that price but if it's too steep take a look at the Dobinsons IMS... They aren't adjustable or have remote reservoirs but it'll only cost you around $1200.

Took me all of 2 minutes driving on my MRRs to realize how lacking the FCPs are. It's a major improvement in every single way.

Thanks for sharing that video! I think they’re opinions of the shocks mirror mine, well not that I had a bias or expectation they were going to be bad. I bought them with great expectations. I bet if they had adjusters and I could have them ride softer I’d have no complaints.

I still think they’re great but just not the right kit for me after driving on them for 4 years.

I also can’t help but want to change things on my truck and mess with things.

After watching the full blind test video I’m not sure what to think about the Dobinsons MRR. Maybe they’ll follow through with another test of the MRRs with the knobs in the mid setting.

The review is a little odd though, I don’t think I’ve read any bad reviews on TW about them, MRRs I mean.

Well, I read through all 137 pages. Thank you all for sharing your experiences with the FCPs. I too wanted a rebuildable, large diameter shock that was height adjustable but didn’t want the feel of a gas shock and had no use for resi systems since I’m not doing desert baja. I do more slow crawling and just wanted some well-cushioned articulation. Parts have been ordered and received. I got the FCP 3” performance pre-built struts and rear shocks. I’ll be glad to be rid of this old Toytec lift. We’ll see how this all pairs with my OME Dakar leafs. I’ll let you know how it turns out. I have full front to back Budbuilt skids, BAMF sliders, BAMF LCA and diff skids, and a steel ARB front bumper and Warn 10k steel cabled winch. Just hope I’m not too heavy for the performance springs. I’ll update y’all once I get it installed.

Nice! It really is a great lift. I think it’ll work well for you with the extra weight. If I had more constant weight in mine I’d probably enjoy it more, just a little too stiff for me.

I’ve not been in another truck with a different suspension, maybe they’re all the same and my expectations are unrealistic.

I’m sure you’ve already tried lowering it 1/4” (1/2”). I’m afraid I’ll sit too low and be forced to raise it. FWIW, my Toytec ULK was super stiff (no dampening, just bouncing off everything) for about 5k miles before it even began softening up

I’ve tried a bunch of things, but none worked as well as I’d like. Right now I have 660# OME springs but I need to lower the spring seats just no time or time to get an alignment after. I didn’t adjust them enough when I put them on. It could just be unrealistic expectations of a lift.
The E rated tires do not help either

    When’s the instal happening?

I bet lowering the seats, adding a bumper, or getting some D load tires would make a world of difference. Deleting your swaybar could help too. Lift is going in today…and maybe tomorrow and possibly rest of week

    Good luck!

Tried the sway bar but with having to commute 60 miles highway (daily now) I wasn’t comfortable with it off. Can’t say I noticed a difference. I might be putting my oem wheels/tires back on with my new daily commute to help the mpgs a little. A bumper would be nice…

My early impression is very favorable. It feels very planted. Unbroken, they feel very FIRM, but not “springy”. So, I think the added weight of the bumper, steel cabled winch, sliders, skids, topper, etc., have helped a ton. I have just enough weight to compress the springs and it is articulating well. It will also soften up as it breaks in. Keep in mind, I only got the 3” 720# mediums, despite my added weight, I have D load tires, and I don’t have a sway bar. If I had less weight, the springs would not compress. If I got the heavy load springs, the springs would not compress. So, I am very happy I seem to have made the right call on which springs to get. I need to verify with a tape measure, but it appears I am sitting about +3.25”. It appears I still have a slight (1/2”) rake with my OME Dakars and extra leaf. My two inner fins on my inner CV boots are rubbing more than I’d like. I don’t have a diff drop as it interferes with my skids. I think it will settle about +2.75” and the CV angles will be perfect. I’m weighing the risk of driving it as is and letting it break and settle to where I want it or going ahead and lowering it now, alleviating that risk to the boots, knowing I may have to raise it 1/2” after it settles.

All things considered, I think I will love this setup for the slow rock crawling I do around here. Now I have to replace my leaf packs because while under there, I saw that my passenger side #2 leaf is blown into three pieces. Once I replace these leaf packs, I’ll get the rake I’m looking for and it should feel a little tighter in the back

Great to hear and review. Sounds like you were spot on.

One option you have, if you don’t know, the boot slide mod. I talked about it in this thread somewhere and might have shared the pm of the special hose clamps for hoses.

It involves taking the inner clamps off, sliding the boots a little then re-clamping.

I got the stuff to do it but never ended up doing it.

Correct, that is another option and perhaps the best option at the moment. I did it previously with my prior lift. Those axles eventually gave up (after 80k miles) and were replaced and haven’t slid the boots on them yet

Just measured hub to fender. D/S is at 23 5/16” and P/S is at 23 3/16” for a lift average of 3 5/16” over my stock height.

Definitely a tad high. Maybe since yours is an AC?

in case you need to, you can adjust the height with them still installed. I’ve done up and down.
