The one in my neighborhood is gas. I can remember setting the dwell on it yearly. I don't remember how I did it. But I know I did. :anonymous:

    Another early morning?

Good morning everyone and welcome to the weekend :hattip:

Following up on that cluster _uck I did to that electrical connector I posted about last Oct/Nov- it’s fixed!

I spent approximately 15-20 hours attempting to fix it myself.

By fixing I mean wearing knee pads kneeling on the floor, over the rocker panel with a folded up moving blanket over it to prevent the pinch weld from cutting into my stomach because the trim piece was removed, laying into to the car to get to the driver’s side foot well with the kick panel removed, reaching up by the firewall with all sorts of picks, tweezers, pin removal tools, lights and a magnifying device trying to manipulate the pins so the retainer could be installed. It was a miserable time but hey, sports car!

I talked to my bud who’s daughter is a former mechanic now service advisor at a local Chevy dealership. She’s dating, get this, a Ford certified mechanic! It took him two leisurely trips to my place, not more than a couple hours to get that connector back together. Yeah it was one of those :anonymous:moments for me but I was at the point where I didn’t care. I am forever grateful for the friends I have..

So why did I fubar that connector in the first place? I needed to rewire the differential temperature sensor I installed soon after getting the car about 10 years ago. It gives me this from the factory display:
    IMG_8404.jpg
It’s the Axle Oil Temp at the top.

My car is one of the more shameful models put out by Ford and is definitely the black sheep among enthusiasts. It only had one model year, the first. It was a package where the bean counters thought it would be a great idea to not include transmission and differential coolers. Mind you this engine redlines at 8250 rpms and puts out 520 hp.

They had to keep the transmission temperature sensor installed because without a cooler, the transmission will go into a self preservation ‘limp mode’ - dramatically reduced power output causing rapid deceleration. A very dangerous situation on a racetrack for sure but then as these models started hitting the market, limp mode was happening on the public streets and highways. Ford turned off the Trans Temp display in an attempt to cover up the high temperatures the transmission would get to. (I say this was fraud but the Courts didn’t think so).

For the differential, they didn’t even bother with a sensor.

However, using a software called Forscan, one can make changes to specific lines of code.

For example, neither the Axle Oil Temp or the Trans Oil Temp you see in the pic above were present when I got the car from the factory. I used Forscan to turn them on. I needed to add the diff sensor and get it wired into the factory harness.

    Information is good

Having the Trans Temp displayed has allowed me to avoid limp mode. When ‘spirited’ driving brings the Trans temp to 270 or so, I know it’s time to back off.. The diff temps let’s me know when to change the oil. There’s all sorts of info out there on the useful life at certain temps…

It’s a fun car but it really turned me off of Ford which is a shame. My first car was a rusted out ‘68 coupe and I’ve had about 5 other Mustangs, a couple of Rangers and even an F-150…

Good morning guys. Waiting on some severe weather this afternoon. So much for the raking and stick pickup I did.

    Have a great weekend!

Can't remember if yours is a 350 or 500 Pz, beautiful cars either way. I know I've told you my guy across the street has a 17ish white on blue stripes 350 that he drives like a baby every where he goes. Shifting at 2200...quiet neighborhood exhaust mode always, I just go....why man. LET HER EAT

That package is still moving through the network.
I'm thinking this could be a record of sorts.
