Hey all, I've got a 2007 regular cab, 2tr-fe,149k miles. Up until about 4k miles ago, it did not use any oil at all. Now, it has suddenly jumped to a quart ever 500 miles or so. I started simple with replacing the pcv valve, oem from Toyota. Next week, I plan on pulling the plugs and running a compression check.

Is there anything else to check? I've not noticed smoke from the exhaust, and no visible leaks or weeps. I did do a rear main seal about 4k miles ago when I replaced the clutch. Related? The rear main is dry as well.

Anyone tried the B12 chemtool? I almost suspect a stuck oil control ring but wanted to hear others opinions.

Ringlands or valve seals are all that could cause it. Blowby is pretty normal for an engine that age. It's out of your control. You can try ring land chemicals but I've never heard of any actually working.

Typically ringland blow by you'll see smoke coming out of the oil fill cap when its running. Valve seals you'll see a puff on start up and on heavy decel.

You could try the Valvoline Restore oil.

Yeah, no drips on the concrete. Looked all around and no leaks that I can see.

I'd run a compression test on it and if it shows low, try the Berryman's soak. At that point, I don't think you'd have anything to lose.

My 4.0 would eat mobile 1 for some reason
, would also burn oil if I was too hard on her. Switched brands and didn’t have much consumption issues after

I checked and coolant is full, clean and fresh pink. No mixing or anything weird.

I've run Costco Kirkland 5w-30 synthetic for the last 30k miles on 5k oil change intervals. So I definitely wouldn't think the sudden issue is oil related. I've also used OEM oil filters direct from the dealer as I get an excellent price on them.

I should also note, it seems the oil is getting dirtier/dirtier quicker. Mayhaps indicating a ring issue?

Look up Saturn MMO ring soak. Common problem fot them. It works.
    Edit. Few links.
    https://www.mr2oc.com/threads/marvel-mystery-oil-piston-soak.257549/

PS put rags over empty spark plug holes when you crank the engine next day. MMO will shoot out with some force.
PPS some people turn the engine by hand to get the MMO out. You need to get it out before putting plugs in, so the engine does not hydrolock.

Just checked it out and may try it. On my next off days from work I'm going to do a compression test and leak down. Maybe a better idea of what is going on and get a baseline.

If you are concerned about seals in the engine, this is the only product I have seen to work:
    https://www.amazon.com/Liqui-Moly-Motor-Oil-Saver/dp/B01KKN0SXA

One bottle treats up to 5 liters. It is German, and unlike US, Germany has very strict advertising laws. A product has to be tested and proven to do what it claims to do, before it can be advertised. It is added to engine oil. I use it in my 156K miles Chrysler minivan. It takes 6 quarts of oil, so I use a bottle and a third of LM MOS at every oil change.

Takes about 500 miles to see the result. It cannot fix a torn seal, but it will make an old seal more pliable.

I did this method once with a different vehicle that was having similar issues....I used b-12 though
..but inlet each cylinder soak at TDC and BDC overnight. Took two days to do obviously but it really worked well. I did it to a inline four cylinder engine so it was really easy to get to the plug holes and measure. End result was a dramatic decrease in oil consumption.

    Good luck!

Pulled the plugs today. Right to left is 1-->4. Not original(autolite) and definitely worn. I don't see any evidence of oil fouling, any input would be great. I'm not very good at reading plugs.

Compression numbers, big jump with the wet.

I should also note, coils have a faint smell of burnt oil. No evidence of oil in the plug wells, so not sure there?

    Replaced them with OEM plugs?
For the comprssion numbers to jump that much, sure seems like you have stuck oil rings. Do the soak, change oil afterwards.

Yup, went with Denso Iridium plugs. That's the impression I was getting. I've got it soaking at the moment.
