    Factually not so.

I was in that same camp of thinking why spend that kind of money?!??

The funnel is no ordinary funnel, it actually screws in and locks into the oil fill hole so you can actually use two hands to pour the oil.
The drain itself it much better than OEM, and the last "any flat filter wrench" I used on my oil filter housing is still permanently attached to the OEM housing in a trash pile somewhere I would guess.

Okay i put the plastic filter housing drain nipple thing in a plastic bag, hold it from outside the bag, the press it into the filter housing drain valve so all the oil goes in the bag, never had it go down my arm

Old yacht maintenance trick, can’t spill oil in someone’s yacht

Not blaming the parts . . . . blaming me (the OP) - I admit I screwed up and probably ordered the wrong part.

I'm 63 and have been changing my own oil since my Dad handed me the keys to a 72 Super Beetle saying "if you can get it running, you can have it". So I didn't think there was any oil changing gadgets out there that could impress me until I bought one of those screw in filler funnels. Man, where have you been all my life sweetheart!

Well evidently in my case that's a bar to high. Hey - I am not making excuses I effed up the oil change - should have not not tried to be clever. The way I have been doing it for years with the stock un-cool filter housing has worked for years - should have stuck with same old same old oil change. I have changed the oil in this truck and many other vehicles over the years . . . . I messed this on up - live and learn.

Don't see a part number on it and can't remember where I ordered from. It was well over a year ago - almost two years - I don't even know why I thought it was a good idea to get it in the first place as there is nothing wrong with the stock housing. Someone said I am blaming the part - I am not - it looks fine from what I can see and the O rings look OK and are in the correct place (I've done that a million times and it matches the pic on the filter box). I "think" it went on properly at least it felt like it did (maybe I screwed that up (never have before but who knows). All I know is that when I started her up oil blew out the filter housing. When I went back to the old stock housing everything worked OK as it has for every other oil change (this was the 7th on the Tacoma and what, hundreds over the years).

You got a free funnel for every bottle of motor oil you buy. Yes, it fits the Toyota oil filler neck, it has been the same for 30 years.

My guess as well. Unless the o-ring is mounted in the right slot, you are pretty much guaranteed to spew oil.

And yes, the MotivX filter drain tool works great - no mess. I bought one after seeing plenty of oily arms on YouTube.

    It's just a free bottle. Also, that's not 2GR.

Friend of mine insisted to drain the filter housing on his 4Runner TRD Pro, I told him I would custom make a tool for him for $40(it was a joke), he was not amused. It really cost me nothing but a piece of scrap 3/4" CPVC and tubing. You can make one in 30 seconds and less than a dollar. Pop it in, drain and pop it out.

I created and utilize the exact same contraption to drain my filter housing. Except my tube is a scrap piece of aluminum tubing. Works fine - last long time!

The one time I had issue with the OEM drain tip(one came with the filter) was one of the 3 prongs broke off and stuck in the filter cap while I was trying to unplug it. Not a big deal since the filter cap has to come out any way.

lol - After 4 oil changes without it, I would have paid the price I paid for the whole kit just to get the more precise wrench.
The funnel was just gravy......hell with the discount, the sale price of the kit was nearly down the the previous price of the wrench alone.

Each to their own bud. You can use whatever you have lying around the garage if it works for you.

Yes, a hair line crack could develop and eventually start leaking. Expansion and contraction!

You probably just got the seal in the wrong groove, it happens. No big deal just compare it to the plastic housing and try again

The worse one in that kit is the funnel. It would work better on a Tacoma if it has the straight wall, because the filler neck is mounted at an angle, the funnel bowl doesn't hold much oil It's easier to spill than the cut off oil bottle. Ice tea bottle works, too.

I bought the kit before, returned it.

i'll just throw this out there. i may be wrong so maybe someone that knows for sure can confirm or deny.
i thought i saw, a long time ago on this forum, that someone had a problem with the perforated tube of the housing
being too long, he had the wrong part. i think it bottomed out before things were where they were supposed to be so it may have felt like you torqued to the finish but the extra long tube prevented it. anyone remember that? i'm not gonna go looking for it.
here is example pic for visual aid only, not claiming it is right or wrong:
