Oil Change from Hell

I saw that exact post you are talking about

 

so i just compared to a plastic and i noticed the threads on the metal one are shaved on two sides 180 degrees apart.
is this normal to what you all have.

 

i believe my plastic housing also has that 'feature'. it really shouldn't make a difference as long as the o-ring is in the right spot.

 

yeah, it is the oring sealng on the side of the receiver that keeps the oil in. oil getting past threads is irrelevant.
i never noticed if was same on the plastic.
btw: we call the oem plastic but it is really a composite designed to be heat resistant and compliant for the task at hand.

I'd bet $100 the o-ring was in the wrong spot. I've made this mistake myself when I had a 3rd gen Taco

And the aluminum housing is 100% made for the 2GR motor - I know this because my wifes 2007 RAV4 w/ 3.5L 2GR came with an aluminum housing stock from the factory.

In the interest of not derailing the thread, I'll keep the jokes about the 3G Taco and my wife's RAV4 sharing the same motor to myself...

 

I compared it to a spare plastic cap i have the plastic has treads all the way around.
When i noticed the difference i posted the pic.

You are so right. But then, why make anything better, easier to use, purpose built, more convenient?

I'm doing this to try and give you a different perception and hopefully change your perspective.

Theres ways around everything, but why chose oil changes as the spot to stand your ground?

Go back through your spending for the month, be honest with yourself about all the BS you bought. Things like cigs, beers, poke-man cards, hot wheels, patches, fast food? I'm sure you get the point. But you won't spend $75 to make your life easier. I'm positive you can save 75 bucks in a month.

Some things are just worth it. I'm not saying you specifically, many people have an emotional connection to money in a very similar way as the emotional connection to food.

Food is fuel and money is peace.

Just received one of these. I think it may also fit my 2019 lexus nx300.
Now I just need a trd skid plate with access holes.

 

Even with the TRD skid plate it's still hard to not get oil on top of the skid plate when removing the oil pan drain plug. Maybe I've just got butter fingers.

 

We are talking about a specific funnel you use 2 times a year, Right? There is a $ for benefit ratio that people use to determine if something is worth it. When the 14 dollar tool works fine for the frequency of oil changes its hard to justify a 75 dollar kit

 

It's more than the just the funnel. I must drive a lot more than you a year if you're only changing the oil twice a year.

Appreciate it. I always feel like there is no need for all the negatively and BS. We all think differently at different points in our lives. I felt just like him at some situations and in others I still do.

 

I change my oil twice a year now...it's my daily driver but my job/work is only 5 miles/one way. (I barely drive 3K miles in 6 months)

Changed my insurance annual mileage too...from 10K to 5K which helped reduce my full coverage.

Wife and I just don't drive as many miles anymore.

Oh, I have modified the funnel and added supplemental from the Auto Hobby Shop on Dover AFB to prevent oil spillage.
