Yea I guess, writing hazard mitigation plans is kind of a bore though. I haven’t even gotten any NEPA work yet. I’m kinda nervous about getting another job out of state cause a lot of places won’t even give you a look if you have to relocate, ironically cause of situations like I’m in now.

Yeah if you're going to be in the air and bombing crazy terrain I don't think a throwback component bike is the best call, but for almost everything else older components and frames are the best. Besides, new stuff is ugly as shit. And who needs wireless shifting.

I just got a new Velo Orange Polyvalent to build for summer, I'm pumped. Tons of rail trails I'd like to hit over summer and fall. Also been piecing together some stuff for an old 26 mtb build. Finally invested in a stand too, no more bikes flipped over on the lawn haha.

I've spent enough time over the years in NYC, often a month at a time, to love it but also know that living there is not fun if you aren't making a solid living. Unless you're young, like early 20s, then it can still be a blast at least in short bursts.
I'd move to Savannah before NY now.

Plenty of options if you're open minded. Figure out what's important to ya and dig in on finding a fit.

As another former Chicago resident (9 years; most of my 20s) I think it's a great place for the right kind of person, but agree that it's not for everyone.

If you're going to live in Chicago--and I'm sure NYC is the same, even though I've never been--the neighborhood you live in can make or break your experience. I'd avoid the suburbs unless you're raising kids.

Those are superb brakes. I've got a set in a drawer, waiting for the right bike and the accompanying motivation to build it. They'll probably end up on an old Trek Singletrack frame I have unless something cooler comes my way.

I'd say a Singletrack is worthy. Besides, if a better frame you like pops up later you can always swap, but old Treks are great.
