Roll up Velcro usually doesn't last more than 2 or 3 years

I never considered the backflip mostly because it would cover up the back window. My dilemma was between the roll up and the Retrax Pro both with the T slot rails. Went with the retrax. Deciding factor was that I didn't want to risk the cover rolling loose and hitting the back window. I just didn't want to take a chance on it happening

I had an Access limited cover that lasted well past three years more like ten before I replaced the vinyl as the old one was toasted due to the Texas sun.

Just went in on a TruXedo Pro X15 Soft Roll Up Tonneau, as I don’t like the folding kind, and, as I couldn’t justify the expense of the hard roll ups or the retractable ones, I bought what seems like a high-end soft rolling cover. I had a TruxSport for nearly 8 years with no problem and this should be better.

    Folding!

I've had both and the folding looks better, holds up longer, and is more secure.

I liked my bakflip but it only lasted 5 or 6 years before it started falling apart. I've got it cobbled together with door hinges until I decide which covet to buy next. I'm leaning towards the DB switchback but don't like the fact that's it's not a true trifold. I do believe that it'll outlast all the other covers and I'm a beliver in pay once, cry once.

Can you post some pictures? Thinking about going with the Truxedo also.

I totally will when I get it installed, which is likely to be a couple of weeks at this rate.

I’ll have to take off the ARB sport bar and side panels, so eventually I’ll put those up on the marketplace when ready.

Which is right depends on how you use your truck bed, how secure you want it to be, and if you want some portion of your back window blocked when needing to fold/roll the cover for tall items.

I've had them all, and my favorite so far has been the Bak Revolver (I had the first gen version on a '17 Super Duty back when my kids were racing ATV Motocross). Needed a locking cover for security purposes (expensive gear in the bed!) and I don't like the folding covers when they are folded up almost hitting the back of the cab (and blocking the window somewhat). Need to haul a quad or go to the dump - easy: Just roll the thing up and clip it in place and it didn't block the view from the back window nor eat up hardly any of the bed space. The locking aluminum roll up was perfect for me back then.

But dang they have got expensive! I just priced one for my 3G and they are ~$1500. Yikes; I don't really need the 'security' portion anymore like I did back then, so I may just go back to an old school roll up fabric cover that doesn't lock but hopefully does a decent job of keeping water out of the bed for trips to Costco, etc.

My new 2024 Tacoma came with the OEM hard cover and I'm very satisfied with it. This is the first hard cover I've had, did not install covers on the beds of my previous pickups (Chevy and GMC) but had always thought about doing so. I like having the ability to keep things in the bed that are out of sight and reasonably secure, and it is very easy to open the cover for access. It also is reasonably water-tight - when I run this pickup through a car wash and then check to see if any water is in the bed, I only see a very small amount on the back corners, nothing that would get stuff wet in the bed.

I work from my truck & carry tools in the bed so security is important. Had a cheap roll up velcro one, lasted less than 2 yrs.
I've had several trifolds, some better than others. Best IMO was the leer with its very secure sliding latches. The 2023 has a Bakflip MX4, worst purchase ever. It's lower quality compared to the Leer & those hanging cable releases are a fucking joke. Even with a remote locking tailgate, I watched 2 guys pull up to the back of my locked truck, slip a coat hanger between the cover & tailgate, hook that cable & open it. I was yelling & moving as fast as I could (disabled) but they cleaned out my bed into their truck bed in a minute. If you look at a Leer, there's no cable release hanging down to snag. It's happened to me twice- once at Lowes & another time at Home Depot. Now I find myself moving some tools to the back seat if I park anywhere.

We sell pretty much all of them... BAK, Leer, Undercover, Lomax, etc.

As far as hard folding covers go our best longtime quality results have been with Lomax by far. We have sold a ton of them right here for Tacoma's alone and the results have been great.

Leer makes a great cover. Only issue we have had is if you need their customer service for something they are hard to reach and slow.

Hard rolling covers (Revolvers, Sentry, etc) are very versatile. Issue we have had has been long term they delaminate and fall apart. So if you don't keep trucks beyond a couple years its likely not an issue but long term truck owners will likely end up replacing them.

We do offer some great discounts on everything we sell for forum members so if we can offer assistance with choosing and/or pricing let us know!

Thats where i was at on the X4S. Hot vegas sun caused the metal interlocking parts to seperate on my 3rd gen in about 2 years, Co-workers glue let go as well on his chevy. Buddies f250 just keeps losing his plastic corners ( he beats the ever loving crap out of that truck and cover).

But i ended up going with the relvolver on my 4th gen anyway.... warranty thing was annoying, they sent new ones, but not sure how a 2nd warranty claim will go. I hate the covers that roll up in the boxes eating up bed space and i hate the trifold ones. the relvolver is the best option IMO. maybe just not executed the best and needs some polishing

Its likely they are unable to find an adhesive that will hold up to the heat generated by a black cover over aluminum. I sell them every week to people that I inform its won't last but if you don't keep trucks long term its a very versatile cover while it lasts.
