I wish I could repay you with a good roofer suggestion but unfortunately I don’t know anyone.

 

I used Goss roofing when I needed a new roof. They’ve also came out a couple times to fix siding issues/nailing a piece back in, I couldn’t reach without charging.

So now that I’ve looked at it more, I’m actually not sure if that would work or not.

The tank itself is inside my house, I just need something to prevent them from filling up the tank via the filler neck which is outside the house.

 

I use Burtonsville fuel, still family owned. They are great. Only give me oil when I call them. Griffith,Petro and Carroll are all owned by the same company.

 

I’ll be switching to Burtonsville fuel tomorrow then.

I have tried all 3 of those companies you mentioned that are owned by the same company and they’re all borderline criminals in my opinion.

They say they don’t do deliveries on demand, but promise to only deliver if they call first and confirm, and then you wake up one morning with a bill for $1,000 in your mailbox and no one so much as tried to call you first.

Man that is weird. Past two oil companies I've used if you weren't on auto fill, you did not get oil. Current company will not leave you a bill, you gotta specify an amount for them to deliver and leave a check in the door before they pull out the hose. Or if you want the tank filled completely you gotta be home and give them a check afterwards. I guess being slightly out in the country there's less of that nonsense you're going through. Still some shady stuff, but not that bad.

Co-worker is having a time with propane delivery shenanigans from AC&T out of Hagerstown. Meanwhile a friend up the road uses a smaller company for propane in Hagerstown and has great service. Don't know what it is with companies out of larger towns/cities

See that’s the problem, I have been using the big companies. I started out with a smaller oil company but then Carroll Fuels purchased the company and you will be shocked to hear that’s when they started filling my oil tank without permission.

Anyway…rant over, I think lol

 

There's lots of little oil companies around here, so that makes it nice.

Same thing with septic companies. I'll literally see a half a dozen different names driving past the house. So, that keeps prices in line. People that do mine have it easy. There's a farm lane beside the house so I let them back right up to the tank without the need for dragging out all their hoses.

 

Wouldn't that be tresspassing and illegal dumping? If you didn't request a delivery albeit they dump the oil in a tank. I don't see how the oil company can demand payment if they left a product on your property you didn't agree to. Maybe there's some contract or something, maybe you didn't sign it but they signed you up? Like a 3rd party energy provider or Wells Fargo.

 

Oh yeah for sure, I am lucky and my neighbors own a bigger septic company so I just use them and it’s easy haha.

It’s definitely borderline trespassing and illegal dumping. That’s why there are so many Reddit threads about people considering taking legal action; because apparently they do this type of thing to people all the time.

They essentially say that they don’t provide will call service, so they will deliver it annually. Then they claim that they can set up your account so they call you first to make sure you want oil. Then they just deliver it when they want, leave you a bill and claim that your account wasn’t marked for anything special other than an annual delivery.

It’s definitely a sneaky form of fraud. I don’t have the time or resources to do anything more than switch companies though. And truth be told, I’ll need the I’ll eventually to hear the house. It’s more the principle of the matter that bothers me because I essentially see it as theft.
