Found a piece of melted silver in my drained oil

I did some 70-85 mph/21-2400 rpm driving over the holiday including about 2000 ft of steep elevation gain at 45 mph. I noticed some yellowish bubbles during last lil change so I took a good look during today’s oil change.

There weren’t any bubbles but I did find this piece of melted metal that seems a little large. I don’t have a magnetic drain plug

78k miles on a 2015 4.0. Previous owner was elderly and I bought at 26k miles

 

Most likely babbet material from a bearing.

I had this happen years ago with a Hyundai soon after buying it used. I didn't effect any sort of repair and it caused me no troubles after the fact, but I am meticulous when it comes to oil changes.

 

Did you pull that hill in 4th, as opposed to D? If not you probably put a good deal of heat into your tranny. Might give that fluid a quick look while you are at it.

 

Don’t scare the guy, the transmission is fine. Driving over a hill in D is what the truck is designed to do. If it can’t remain in overdrive it will downshift on its own. Knowing the 4.0 and the transmission it was probably down in third gear right away.

 

I suffered through two consecutive ATF drain and fills after my original trans drain plug was rusted out last year. Don’t tell me that lol.

 

Thanks for the reply. I just did a Blackstone Labs oil test to make sure and with exception to oil viscosity being a little low and fuel presence right on the borderline, all the results were good including coolant.
