Had my rear brakes or at least one side lock up on me after washing it, it drug the wheel for a few feet. I put it reverse to break it free and it drug the wheel still, pressed the brakes a bunch then it let go. From then on if I'm driving forward, stop, put it in reverse WITHOUT waiting a couple seconds and start reversing there's a loud clunk from the right rear(ish) when I press the brakes. If I put it in reverse and wait that second or two, then start reversing, press the brakes there's no noise. There's no fault found in the rear brakes so I'm not sure, I'm hoping I didn't hurt something in the diff. It's a weird one. I have a vid but it won't let me upload it(wrong file extension)??

I was a toyota tech for 15yrs from 1999-2014. Still in good standing with the old dealership I had one of friends who still works there check them out. I hung out in the shop and couldn't see anything wrong either. Nothing fancy when it comes to drum brakes. I wanted a paper trail cause it's still under warranty

Are you sure it is from rear. I and others have had fronts doing this. What it was, pad slap. The factory brake grease became gummed up, with dirt/road debris. Removed pins, pads, and shims. Cleaned back of pads, shims and pins. Lubed with brake grease, problem solved. Only clunk in reverse from stop.

100% sure it's from the rear and more right side. When I was in the shop at toyota the tech stood in the front then the rear, we isolated it to the rear and loudest towards right rear.

So mystery solved. After having the right rear brake lock up on my after washing it. That's nothing new really and almost normal lol (see above post for description on the noise)...Well from me trying to break the right rear loose by going from reverse to drive, it pounded the right rear brake shoe pivot(bottom part attached to the backing plate)and mushroomed it and the bottom of the shoes where they contact the pivot. So they would rock back and forth on the bottom when going from drive to reverse and pressing the brakes. In my 20yr career as a mechanic that's the 1st time I've seen that happen. Either way, all covered under warranty so no big deal other than the day off work to get everything replaced. Thanks for the comments and suggestions.
