It's all in the fine print of the agreement you sign when you buy the vehicle. I'm not sure if you can opt out or not at that point. I think all companies are required to let you opt out but most require you to write a letter or something.

Toyota has a site you have to find to opt out and request your data be deleted. But this also locks you out of using any of the app or some of the special features.
GM opt-out probably means you can't use onstar, if I had to guess.

I think the answer is yes.

Buy and customize/update older vehicles until you get to a point when you're ready to surrender. Some will surrender sooner than others.

I feel we're living in a golden age where driving without being monitored is still an option. Have a well known shop install an LS in your pre 2019 along with an aftermarket head unit and burn rubber and dinosaur juice until we devolve.

In a dystopian future, perhaps 30 years away, manually driving will just be too damn expensive for anyone but the ultra wealthy. There will be road sensors and mandatory in-vehicle sensors that monitor and fine drivers for speed/acceleration/breaking/turn inconsistencies. Busy metropolitan areas will rely on networked self-driving cars to perform predictable merging.. pesky human decision making will be deemed reckless and selfish. I hope I'm wrong but plan to be either hovering above the SOBs in a hexad-copter (or feeding worms.) :D

..and to the crowd that'll whine YoUre AlREady BEing TraCKEd tHrough YoUr MObilE PHone.. right skippy.. it's just not at the same resolution or accuracy as my speed, lateral acceleration, g-force and every braking event.

I was doing well in the ’80 in smog inspection, the job only involved a Sun Modular Engine Analyzer and mostly basic hand tools. Until this gremlins came out:

Had F-word’s CFI (central fuel injection).. fancy words for dangling a single fuel injector over the carburetor where the venturi pipes should be. Blew more than hookers on crack AND meth. F-word of the mid 80s.

Way back in the day, we used essentially this… they were called Threadserts or Thinserts or Timeserts. You would tap to new size, insert the new sleeve and then use the expansion tool to make them lock on the new threads and provide the desired thread with minimal thickness and issues. Great for aluminum. I believe they were available in copper or bronze and some sort of steel. This was late 80s.

I could have sworn that my truck was an odd speckled grey color.

Turns out after its first bath since last fall it's actually black.

The Googles says it's Midnight Black Metallic so I'm going with that.
