That can happen when you try to quote a post while it's being edited.
Maybe that also applies when someone is in the process of changing votes?

Essentially what I did with my dad. I’d ask him what he needed doing and I’d explain why I didn’t think it was a good idea for him to risk it (they all know ye olde ‘broken hip’), but I’d be happy to help or get it done for him. He looked forward to my visits and was later willing to let me get someone, so we had more time together when I visited. This is the time to pick his brain for memories. I found out all sorts of “secrets” that were family embarrassment, or didn’t want anyone to know. He loved retelling stores of his service and young and college days. His crushes, how he really met your mother, etc. He was also thrilled to hear MY memories and what I remembered. This stuff is good for their cognitive abilities too.
He too remembers when I was a young adult and he looked me square in the eye and said “I’m not too old to kick your ass!” (He could have too… damn military amateur boxers).
