How about a Fumoelectronic valve that works from a switch on the dashboard?

The old Parnelli Jones trick, eh. Works as long as the oil lasts I guess. Need an auto fill feature to match though.

Tucked above the frame behind the suspension. If I was in a hurry to change the oil it would overflow the loosened filter and get everywhere. Waiting for the slower drain rate of the valve allows the oil above the filter to also flow back to the pan instead. No mess because that oil isn’t there any more, just what’s still in the filter.

I actually had one installed on the Tacoma and at the time for an oil change it didn't work. They opened the valve and nothing came out. The valve failed. So I went with the no spill system. Never had a problem since.

I had a Fumoto on my '07 and it got accidently opened while out hunting and I didn't notice the oil light in time and ruined my engine.
I drove through sage brush and somehow the brush got the valve open and drained out the oil and I didn't notice the low oil light on the dash.
I won't be using another Fumoto because that's an expensive mistake.

A full length skid plate would of solved that issue.

One thing I absolutely hate is having oil run down my arm into my armpit.

That's the beauty of the no spill system. The oil doesn't flow unless you have the drain tube screwd in. And it has a tube that's attached. It drains into the pan. So I no longer get it all over the skid plate. I have a 3" Dia hole for the oil drain. It just makes it so easy. Plus it sits above the bottom of the plate. And has a brass cap that screws on it as well to keep any dirt or stuff out.

When I pull my drain plug, the last couple turns I do with my hand to the side of the plug and just using my forefinger on the side of the plug. I use an enclosed drain pan. Plug drops into the top of the pan, oil drains, I haven’t gotten a drop on me. I walk away and go do something else for an hour, come back, stuff a towel in the drain hole for any last drops, pull the pan out, pick up the plug, wipe it clean, pull towel from the hole and reinstall the plug.

Oil can easily be changed with no mess without a fumoto.

I have one installed on my riding mower engine, and it hasn’t necessarily gotten me excited about installing one on the taco. I mean, I see the advantages, but I feel better knowing I have a drain plug securely installed.

Yeah, I don’t think I’d be bushwhacking without
i can see that. Ez drain has a short 12 mm bolt you can install in place of the hose nipple that acts as back up if you need it for whatever, sticks down less, and keeps the lever action for controlling the flow so still no mess(the hose nipple lives on the hose that’s next to the filter wrench). I also added more informative guages since it’s been decades since a dash last had what I want. A red light that only comes on after I’m fucked doesn’t cut it. If I had a garage with a lift I probably wouldn’t have one of these. It’s a convenience rather than a necessity but so are most of the things my base truck has my first ride didn’t.

Less than 1 cup of old oil will remain behind. Not even enough to change the color of the new oil at all.

Or you drop the plug into the pan by accident and have to fish around in 4” of oil to find it. I’ve done that a few times.

Guessing or have you tried that? Only thing I can go with is what I have read online on different forums of those that have removed the valve and seen (scope) or felt gunk or sludge like material in the sump in the area from where the oil sat and wasn't dropped fully. It's one thing to not fully get the oil galleys refreshed, but oil that sits in a sump tends to accumulate the gunk whereas the galleys have the oil pressure to flush the oil through preventing that buildup. Just curious if any real world users have ever checked for that.

If only they would make a magnet, but one on the end of a collapsible rod to fish metal objects out of hard to reach areas. Man that would be useful.

The drain plug gaskets I got from my Toyota dealer the other day are no longer blue, just black. If that isn't a reason to install a Fumoto valve, I don't know what is.

The only way there would be "sludge" anywhere in a your motor is if you're not changing oil often enough. If there was concerning stuff in the bottom of your oil pan, that same stuff would be in your oil filter. If it's not in your oil filter then it's not making it's way up into your engine and damaging anything

This works exceptionally well for that. Also I have a half sheet baking pan, slide the drain pan out while sliding the half sheet pan in, then you can fish it out with the magnet without making a mess.

Those flexible magnetic drain plug tools work great.
