    Thirty two hours now. :(
There are about 17,000 accounts without power now.

The kitchen is a snarl of cords and power strips but the fridge and DSL are running, we have a bulb and the phones are charging.

Kerosene heater in the living room.

Just another day of rural living, life is good. ;)

    Good Lort Rusty

I would be investing in a Generac or the sorts if my power went out that much, which from past it seems like it does for you. I've been fortunate around here.

Couple months ago we kept having power blips and people were posting on the towns Facebook page about it. I got booted from the discussion after posting the "you have no power here" meme :anonymous:

This is really the exception rather than the rule. The power goes off more in the summer than winter for us usually.

I believe the COOP is probably ready to go but First Energy has outages from Pittsburgh to the NE NY line.

I generally hated school. If I had been born 60 years earlier when it was acceptable to drop out of grade school and start working, I'd have absolutely been doing that.

My tech courses were ran by the same guy that had been doing it for 40 years and was clearly considering retiring soon at the time.

Every project we made used jigs and pre-set equipment. It became more fun to see how I could screw it up simply because so much fun and learning was taken out of the equation. Every project became procedural instead of educational.

So while I really have no desire to deal with schools, I do love learning new processes and using new tools.

I make the guys in the install bay next to me nervous all the time by accident. I'll see them doing something different with the same parts, and I'll accidently start inundating them with questions of what/why/where, just to learn something new/different.

But my problem with schools has always been learning speed. I was always reading 5-10 chapters ahead of the class when the teachers called on me to answer a question, so I'd always come off as clueless in the moment, which never helped my grades.

Better hurry. Many of those '85 c/k's got turned in for cash for clunkers. What's left is asking for a mint if it's not entirely rotted out to the point of needing to put an order into LMC Truck that you just say you need everything from page 3 to page 12!

One word messes all that up.

    Liability.

Most automakers are selectively stopping at only providing level 3 autonomy because it makes the vehicle owner responsible for everything, which is really perfect from their perspective. They get to keep selling what they're selling, and maintain a minimal liability footprint.

Going beyond that to levels 4 or 5 autonomy, there's nearly all negative reasons to even sell vehicles to the public. Because of the liability concerns at those higher levels, it's more in the automakers benefit to become an on-demand rental agency. And being an on-demand rental, or Uber, it also benefits them to do their own maintenance to minimize liability of parts/part quality failure causing a breakdown. Which upends the massive private/franchise dealership service industry.

And also in doing so, and becoming multiple taxi services, it upends the class warfare going on between the brand identities. Uber has shown us that there's really only space for 2 categories of taxi services. Regular/cheap and premium. No one remembers much of the vehicle that they called unless they call specifically for an Uber black, only that the drive was accommodating and got them there in time. It also means GM would likely start producing 2 levels of vehicle. Chevrolet, and Cadillac. The other brands within their marque would become redundant at that point, and brands would likely start competing similarly as Microsoft windows and Linux does--offering the same type of core product with different efficiency features. The main brands would likely then focus competition efforts on a high ratio of availability vs. their competitors, or app routing benefits.

I've gone down this thought process before. Just as self-driving vehicles were supposed to exist in the '70's and just never did, I believe that's our future as well. All of the brands simply stand to benefit and make far more money without disrupting the current market, despite press statements otherwise.

Second tank of gas for the gen, freezer is still catching up then I will switch back to the fridge.

First Energy is saying 14,000 out so I guess we are trending in the right direction.
