I mostly forgot rotating hard drives existed until a friend told me he was applying to work at Western Digital recently.

 

Dang that sucks

 

yaaa for consumers they are pretty much dead, ssds are so cheap and abundant that spinning rust no longer makes sense

seagate sure does. this is the first time ive bought one in probably a decade and immediately regret lol

 

I remember buying Seagate Barracuda, as the fastest HDD you can get before SSD.

"What? Your HDD doesn't run at 7200rpm? Don't talk to be nub"

 

Wozniak was pushing for NVMe SSD's some time ago. I think my GPU is in the way of my PCIe so I can't use one currently but SSD's are getting crazy good and cheap these days.

 

I guess people don't realize these online scamsters are committing federal crime named WIRE FRAUD.

I have seen some moderators in FB groups recommend fraudsters as if they are getting a cut of the proceeds from a scam. That is Aiding and Abetting a Federal Crime.

The FB group operators are liable to the people who have been defrauded.

the jump in load time was noticeable lol, popping into a battlefield game 30 seconds before half of the people in the lobby was kind of odd

gonna try and rma this drive, hopefully the next one is good to go

 

Drives and ram, two things I always insist on testing before calling it "done'

 

yaaa it would have sucked to forget to test it. with the seek/read errors the test took way too long even though it is a 5400rpm drive

 

What are you using a spinning drive for anyhow?

I mean even a good RAID array of SAS enterprise 10k drives, like say 9 drives in RAID 5 is going to be slower than 2 NvME or 2 SAS SSDs in RAID 1

I just finished a little retro build the other day, now I've got a Windows ME machine... It's actually as bad as everyone says, it crashes from driver issues a lot.

 

Speaking of old PCs, I gotta drag the old one out to test Fusion on

See how much actual GPU utilization occurs on an old setup and how far I can push the OC'd fucker

 

but the cost difference is literally thousands of dollars lol
