Yup. This was the same thing that happened when the 2nd gen was new. And the 3rd gen…

 

I don’t mind a hybrid as a commuter car but an off-road enthusiast vehicle? Nah

 

I would rather have a tuned non hybrid any day and save the weight of the hybrid

 

Then everyone would be bitching about having two turbos that could fail.

 

More trucks sold per day in February. Those are facts with actual interpretation of what the data point means.

 

Anyone buying a truck based solely on popularity (others opinions) or numbers on a piece of paper or… sales data is a lemming.

Buy what you love. Love another gen? Don’t love the 4G Tacoma or the new hybrid drivetrain?

Ok more trucks sold per day in February than January and February has less days. Total sales were down in February compared to January both months were close.

My 1st point was the market for the more powerful midsize trucks isn't that large even if someone wants a 3.0 Ranger Raptor, 2.7 Ranger or hybrid Tacoma. Many people will by the less powerfull option to save some money.

2nd for the month of February there was a stop sale on some trucks not including the hybrid. Did Toyota sell more hybrids in February? I don't think there's anywhere breaking down hybrids and gas sales.

I expect Toyota to grow the Tacoma hybrid line more models with hybrid as an option and more hybrid units produced. Looking at the auto market today I'd anticipated less sales overall from all manufacturers going forward if that happens I would think a product like the Ranger Raptor would be the 1st thing Ford would cut from production. Giving me the impression that the more powerfull midsize truck market will be shrinking. I used February numbers to show the decline in Tacoma sales, but I don't know if hybrid sales increased or decreased.

 

Toyota can fit the hybrid engine in the Xtracab but a 70k XC would be a tough sale no matter how much I would want one.

 

The way I would look at the hybrid in particular to the Tacoma. This would have been me personally. If I really wanted more performance and the premium that comes with that I would have bought the Raptor plain and simple. The extra price, extra weight (hurts performance) and the lack of real MPG savings renders the Hybrid Tacoma a very tough sell. I do not see the hybrid continuing in the Tacoma unless Toyota really needs those sales numbers to fulfill some EPA regulation. If that is the case then the hybrid will come way closer in price to the regular variant or it just isn't going to sell that many.

 

The ranger raptor gets 16mpg city. so not sure why the lack of huge mpg improvement would move you over to it. But it’s your desire, so you should fulfill it how you wish

 

If I wanted performance I couldn’t care less about MPG. People are going to buy a hybrid either for the performance OR better MPG. The Toyota offers neither of any substance.

 

The Toyota offers greatly improved power/torque without the mpg sacrifice. The raptor cannot claim the same

 

I am not well read up on stuff but isn't there some regulation with EPA that the vehicles have to be eco friendly in the next so many years? I am sure the hybrid is the bridge I mean keep seeing articles talk about them cracking the code for a better solid state battery and looking to go to Hydrogen? Sorry Its been a while since I read up on the current articles but I mean that MPG for the Raptor is atrocious and the zr2 Colorado isn't much better almost at that point better off with the bigger truck that gets the same mileage and can do more. Its amazing they can't get better mpg for what is a smaller truck.

 

I do not disagree with any of this and also assume the hybrid is only to solve some EPA regulation. Time will tell if the consumer buys enough of them to make the variant viable. If people don’t then they will have only a couple options. Discontinue it or discount it if they HAVE to keep it for the EPA.

 

I answered a Toyota survey couple weeks ago about where I wanted the fuel and charger door on a PHEV truck. They are here to stay.

 

No disagreeing there. Not sure its the hybrid as a whole though vehicle prices are already insane I mean its almost half the cost of a house from some locations at this point As a whole the auto industry has to bring their prices down its just too crazy and the quality isn't that much better

 

ev trucks are Hideous I dont mind the hybrid but those plug ins especially the chevy ones are just a newer version of the avalanche. Bring that truck back and scrap the ev junk its not saving anything just running price up on peoples electric bill which is still burning fossil fuels to produce the electric for the vehicle.
