Well, I managed to get out to the garage and work on the boat. It took a lot of effort to get out there but I did it. The boat is officially repaired and can be sailed in this condition once I order the new stays and pick up the mainsail that’s being repaired. I do have an upgrade to install: it’s a mast raising system that allows for single handed mast raising. The winch is a brake style so that I can stop anywhere in the arc as I raise it to fix the stays. Doing it the old way was a PIA and would easily kink the side stays thus weakening them. I also have to clean up the boat and put away the tools.

The mainsail is being repaired by a sail loft = they are sewing up a few holes with patches on a big walking foot sewing machine
New stays need to be ordered = they are stranded wires that run from the mast to the deck and hold up the mast are called stays
Mast raising system = a rope and pulley that pulls up the mast with a winch instead of hoisting it on my shoulder

So is it an electric winch? That would be cool, maybe remote controlled?

I try not to post too often, as I don't want to give the image of someone looking for attention. But I know many of you here are truly very concerned and supportive of my situation, so I do not mind posting if anyone does ask.

Summary - Things are not good.

I still get initial interviews with HR people, then they ghost me.
After some significant discussion, last week my wife and I decided it was time to play the last card, and we went to a local attorney to file for bankruptcy protection. Ironically, when we opened the garage door to leave, we found two guys in the process of repossessing out travel trailer, because I had only been making very minimal, partial payments for the last two months. We nwere planning to surrender it as part of the bankruptcy anyway, so no big deal. We are also going to surrender our house, as we have no way at all to pay our $$$ mortgage payment as of March 1st. We had hoped to be able to keep my wife's car (2022 Toyota Highlander), my sister had been graciously sending me the money to make that payment for the last 15 months, but she has run out of her "vacation-emergency-rainy day fund" that she had been using to help us with, so we will also have to surrender the car. We don't know how long our mortgage company might take until they start the foreclosure process and evict us, so we will start packing pretty soon. My wife's parents are going to let us stay with them for the short term, and hope like hell I finally find a job. As of yesterday, it's now ben 1 year and 5 months.

While it really sucks to lose this house, it has so many repair needs, we would never be able to afford to fix everything, and we'd never be able to sell it with all the issues it has, for anything like what we owe (we just bought it a few months before I lost my job). So, surrendering the house as part of the bankruptcy will protect us in that the lender can't come back and sue us for whatever loss they take when they auction it off.

Sorry to darken anyone's day with all the bad news, but I know you all are genuinely supportive of my situation, and I am not the kind to lie about things like this.

I have been looking into different fields I could go into, but with all my physical disabilities and chronic pain, it would have to be a desk job. So that significantly limits my other options.
