Well for one, it's only the 1st race. Butttttt....... You could say strategy again came up to bite them. As much as they struggled, they could have been on te podium with a different call to come in.

Indeed! Mercedes appears to have come out on top of the rookie driver heap.
Piastri is one cool customer. Pretty much the polar opposite of his nervous Nellie teammate. Could make for an interesting season on that team.

Hard to tell about pace. But agree, on (tire) strategy. TStT. Good competition. Love it!

I’d say it’s too early to tell. They look about third quickest and have good drivers so I’d say a solid 3rd in constructor's and between 4-6 on driver’s championship. This race just looked like they took a gamble that the rain wouldn’t be too bad and they’d be on the podium and it didn’t work out. Might have been better to go with a split strategy and put one on inters instead.

Not designating a #1 driver earlier could well have cost McLaren the Driver's Championship last year. Nonsense that Max and Red Bull would never allow. Think of Brazil a couple of years ago and Max's reaction to a call to allow Checo through.

Oscar will be #2 this year and it will always be an issue for McLaren. I'd love to see Piastri push it, just to watch Brown explode and Stella cry.

    Problem with Ferrari is Hamilton.

Hopefully Haas can get their shit together. I really want them to start climbing up through the midfield.

True last year and every F1 team I can remember had #1 and #2 drivers by the midpoint of the season whether they admitted it or not. It's too early for McLaren to set a number 1 because Piastri has so much upside potential. For now team orders to maximize the result of each race should suffice until individual performances sort themselves out.

Back in the Mika / Coulthard days the orders were that whoever was leading after turn 1 would stay in the lead and get priority. The second place driver played rear gunner. They should bring that back as part of the Papaya rules. It seemed to work for the team then.

If I ran McLaren Piastri would get gently 'nudged' into the #1 slot. He's unafraid, stays cool under pressure, and he's a stellar driver; his teammate has only one of those qualities.

Freight delays out of Melbourne with DHL affecting McLaren, Mercedes, Aston Martin and Red Bull. Cars should have arrived Monday night, now not arriving until Wednesday afternoon.

It will be a rush to get cars ready for FP1.

Works for Constructors Championship, but makes things messy for the Driver's Championship.

Considering they can typically easily build a car overnight 1.5 days should be easy…

I feel like Norris did extremely well in Australia, and his radio messages sounded very cool under a lot of pressure. He's obviously a great driver, and I think he learned a lot last season about what it takes to win, being his first season really having a car that could fight at the front. Piastri was gifted a fast car right from the get-go after Norris put in years with the team to get the car to where it is now. We'll see what the rest of the season brings, but I'd say he's consistently quicker than Piastri over a whole season, with Piastri being quicker at the odd race. I like both drivers a lot, and I've been a Mclaren fan for a long time, so it's fun to see them finally doing well! I'm guessing that all changes in 2026 though.

Norris's record dictates he has quite a few positive qualities......
