I don't think anyone would really want to 'store' someone else's vehicle :boink:

Knowing Zane, he's happy to help anyone around here and often does

But if that was my truck, I'd fully expect myself to get it out ASAP if it was going to his house or anyone else's

Get the parts, don't procrastinate, and get that shit done

I wonder if mine could be patched by someone who welds aluminium if all the fines are out of it by now.

Yea I can keep it at my apartment until the end of May, there’s plenty of parking here and nobody really checks it. There’s three junk cars out there in various states if disrepair.

Lots of people can do aluminum

    What's needed?

    These trucks have steel panels

I was talking about the punctured gas tank. I’m just not sure if all the gas fumes would be dissipated by now. I also thought welding aluminium creates some bad fumes.

That’s not a bad idea, but I can’t afford to be out of pocket on a while parts truck. I was even wondering if the xterra could haul my truck back with a dolly, but the tow rating is only 3500 for the 5 speed, but 5k lbs for the auto for some reason.

You would be better off getting a replacement. There is even aftermarket ones on Amazon.

    Welding in general causes fumes

You're thinking of galvanized metal, that shit will fuck you up so it's best to run an extraction setup or at the very least a PAPR setup

T-nuts for the wood panel arrived, I opted for M8 instead of the commonly used 1/4 - 20 for three reasons

    20250319_115336.jpg

The metric bolts are strong, not to mention larger than 1/4", not to mention I got a lot of metric hardware laying around. Remember, I'm going overkill on this thing.

Also got some wrinkle finish paint for the frame so we'll see how it turns out.

    20250319_124435.jpg

Still waiting for the wood top to arrive, but I'll be cutting out the metal top mount along with a backrest mounting template for mock-up purposes.

The gas tank is steel, also I wouldn't weld it. My parts guy in post falls has a used tank we could get for $100

I'm happy to do the work and I could use the core trans he killed the bellhousing on for another project. But yeah I am limited on storage room, I could drop it at a buddy's farm for a couple weeks if thats what it took to get parts or something but I'd rather get it in, swap the trans/clutch, swap gas tank, and have my guy Murl whip up a driveshaft and send him on his way with a fixed truck in a weekend.

If I were a betting man, I'd say you'd be able to knock this out faster than anyone around

But he just needs to hurry up and get the parts and get the truck!

The damage isn't too bad really, hell most of the hard work removing the trans has already been done by the driveshaft haha.

Pretty sure he was thinking about the tank exploding from gasoline fumes not welding fumes
edit: nvm I should read things fully before I say things

You should always fill a vessel with something first like water, to reduce the explosive gas volume. I'd probably fill with water to rinse and displace fumes then dump that and put the argon purge hose we have in it and let it fill for a minute. But I'd rather not repair a gas tank that is neither expensive nor rare.
