Can anyone help? No sure if I have an electrical gremlin or not... Without my headlights on, turn signals work fine. When I turn my headlights on, my left rear turn signal light stays on solid, both the indicator in the cab and the left rear turn signal bulb. When I use the left signal it does flash but stays on solid after I turn it off or the turn has been made. No issue with the right side and all other lights seem to be working fine. Has anyone encountered anything like this before? My first thought was the fuse box but the lights are working.... Possibly a relay... Or... Electrical gremlin? Of course Toyota just wants me to make an appointment and pay them

Maybe bad relay, sounds like it's getting a constant hot.

When you turn on the hazard lights, do they work normally?

Thanks guys, after chasing my tail today, and switching/replacing bulbs...the problem remains but it appears to be the power for the running/ turn signal bulb. The turn signals have 2 filaments, one for turn and the other for running lights. The left front running light on the passenger side is not working, I tried swapping out the left bulb to see if it was the filament, but it wasn't, both bulbs work fine on the right side, but the problem remains as described in the first tread... When lights/ and or running lights are on the left indicator in the cab and left rear turn signal light stay on solid, unless the blinker is on, then the blinker works until the turn is made or I turn it off...then back to solid and so on. Also the four ways do work correctly....any suggestions?

    Bill,
I have a 2006 Tacoma and am having the exact same problem. Did you ever figure out what was wrong?

Swap out your turn signal flasher module. You might try removal/reinstall but if it's stuck internally it's probably defective.

My 09 started doing this too. Has anyone solved this mystery yet?

So took my truck to the dealer and turns out my converter for my trailer 4 pin is bad and the dealer wanted $400 to install an all new factory kit. Just had them disconnect it and will do the install myself sometime in the near future. Took a pic of the culprit from the install PDF (included PDF also). The OEM wiring kit can be had for around $90 + sh from Toyotaparts123 or other Toyota parts dealers. Can't buy converter separately from the kit.

Mine was only the left side, both front and rear, so I removed the left taillight and disconnected the trailer lights plug and plugged just the taillights in and the problem was solved.

Just remove the taillight assembly and you will find the plugs. I circled the three plugs in question with red, blue, and green. The red one is what you have to mess with, and the blue and green are the trailer light plugs. As the picture shows, my blue and green are currently unhooked. Before I unhooked them, it was set up so that the green was plugged in where the red one currently is into the taillight assembly, and then the red plug was plugged into the blue one. What that does is tie your trailer lights into your tail lights. That way all the lights work in unison when you use the brakes and turn signals.

My truck is a rusty POS, so my trailer lights hookup failed and started messing with my turn signals, even with no trailer connected. All I did was disconnect the trailer lights (blue and green) and plug the red plug back into the taillight assembly, as is currently shown in the picture. You’re just cutting out the trailer lights hookup, which is probably corroded and messing with your system. This fixed my issue at least.

PS: please reply with either an affirmative or negative resolution. I sheered off both the bolts that hold the taillight assembly in when I was removing it just now, and I removed it for the sole purpose of taking this picture for you. Thus, I’m eager to know if it was worth it. Like I said, rusty POS! Lol…

Hello dealerschmealer it worked!! Thank you so much

    upload_2025-3-19_20-53-36.png
I did unplugged as you said in the colors and it worked, the turn lights are off and work as normal

I DO wonder, if that cable I have in my hand, which I assume is the negative, was the reason it was showing that behaviour, like if the circuit was off there, it made the lights on.

In the next picture I have unplugged now, and I have in my hand a cable that I am not sure where it was supposed to go, since it is coming from the reverse lights... but I guess that is for another day.

LOL at the random stray wires. My man, thank you so much for the response! Made my night. I’m so glad it helped, 100% worth the sheered bolts.

As for the stray wires, I feel like I remember similar wires hanging under my truck. Feel like I noticed them when I was messing with my rear bumper or something. No problems at the time, so I just forgot about / ignored them. Maybe they’re important if you intend to replace the trailer lights hookup? I don’t tow, so don’t intend to replace the hookup and never had to look into it.

Funny story, when I had the turn signal issue my entire dash would flash instead of the turn signal. Turn signal stayed solid, and my radio, climate control, gauge cluster, etc. would flash in sync with the turn signal clicker. Unbelievably, my AC compressor seized at the same moment the turn signal issue started (maybe not a coincidence?). It seized so bad it sounded like my horn was stuck on because of the grinding. So imagine driving home from work one night and the AC binds so bad it sounds like the horn is stuck on and then the dash starts flashing instead of the turn signals. Unreal

Hahahaha the same happened to me!! My entire dash was flashing too, radio, climate, Odometer, etc! LOL
Not sure about the AC, I don't remember having it on, during the night.

I dont plan to tow either, I don't have the Tow Hitch hehe but who knows in the future, I guess if that happens I will install a new kit or something :)

Thank you man, my wife was like "are you really going to do this in the dark?" and I said "of course, I have to reply to that kind stranger who sheered some bolts to help me!!!" LOL

Love it. I work in the dark so often my uncle started calling me the moonlight mechanic.

Thank you for the replies. Truth is I’d walk to the ends of the earth to help anyone with anything, so long as they appreciated it! So thank you for appreciating brother, the bolts mean nothing now. I wish you a great life, and I hope the ole truck holds up for you.
