My impression is the Pro market is on the decline from what it was prior to 2020. 3rd gen Pros weren't moving that fast in 22 and 23. Some of that was probably due to 4G be released. Look at Bronco and Wrangler sales they have been trending down and Jeep used to sell lots of Wranglers. Where are those customers going Lexus SUV, Tundra? Maybe they aren't buying anything?

I have a hybrid and did not drive a non hybrid before buying. I wish i didnt get a hybrid tbh. At times its cool but that under seat storage would be more valuable to me.

Not that KBB is the best judge of vehicle values but if you check the trade-in for a 2024 Ranger Raptor vs a 2024 Tacoma Pro, the Raptor loses $5K and the Pro gains $2K.

When people say the Raptor is the better "performance" value, I disagree.

Then your definition of performance is different than every other single person in the auto industry. Three performance indicators is 0-60, 1/4 mile and Nurburing lap time. Since the Raptor and Pro aren’t doing the ring then the raptor wins in both 0-60 and 1/4 mile.

“Performance” with trucks, unlike sports cars, is ambiguous. Subjectively, the concept ranges in opinion from stoplight drag racing to payload/towing to rock crawling. Or even durability.

With Raptor vs Pro, quarter mile times are great for bragging over beers, but may not even be on the radar for many (most?) buyers. And since iForce Max is already widely acknowledged as being plenty “torquey”, Toyota easily competes with Ford, based on its collective merits.

You better believe that Ford wishes they could get $67k for every RR, instead of Toyota wishing they could sell any Pro’s for less. Residuals would seem to illustrate that.

Battery will null those savings eventually.
I’ll be getting another V8 full size - real truck. Tacos have become too small and not cost effective for me anymore.

Yeah, I am with you. I have posted my sorrow to the backward transition from the access cab with doors back to the xtra cab design.
Toyota met a number of design parameters in 4G, but for the upgraded suspension, the xtra cab, and 6' bed option not having that combo in OR/Sport seemed short sighted. (SR minus the suspension change).

That said, I am very much enjoying my own transition away from the 2021 AC OR to my current iForceMax short bed. We'll see if that changes when "camping season" officially starts and I try out my tent option extending out over the cap when it rains.

"eventually". Sure. Some day, 10+ years from now. But that's not "maintenance".

But yeah, if you need a big truck, then a Taco isn't for you. I traded in my F350 CCLB for my Taco, because I no longer needed something that was 23ft long and so large my wife wouldn't drive it. Maybe you need to tow heavy trailers or whatever? But a Taco never was offered with a V8, so no idea why you're here throwing FUD about the hybrid.

In all seriousness, the real problem with the hybrid is you lose all the rear under seat storage for the battery. There is virtually no usable behind seat storage and the lack of secure storage in the cabin was the biggest reason I hesitated getting a hybrid once I did my research and realized how reliable Toyota hybrids are. But I knew I'd be getting a cap, so that problem will be solved in about a week when my Alu-Cab shows up.

    Ranger Raptor, sorry TW
KBB doesn't buy trucks, I can buy a pre-owned TRD Pro with 3k miles for $62,949. Why would a dealer give me $67,000 for one with 6k+ more miles on it? I bet they're in this truck for under $59k. And to prove I'm not playing favorites, same goes for the RRaptor. Found one for $52,900 so no way would a dealer approach anything over $50k.

These trucks do not appreciate like a 3G Pro unfortunately. Both great trucks but KBB is not a valid source for anything reasonable.

overall this is good discussion. When the Ranger Raptor came onto the market, I was certain i wanted one to replace my 3rd gen.

Now, we have the 4th gen, 4th gen Hybrid, RR, etc.

Let's just be happy toyota gave us a high torque engine option.

To me, the xtracab just felt like a glorified regular cab. I think they lost a couple of inches from the gen3 in addition to the suicide doors. Couldn't even stick my dog back there. They could absolutely fit the battery pack back there, which I think that would be pretty rad, but I think they're targeting xtracab for barish bones and hybrid as a luxury.

Xtracab is more of a regular cab than a extended cab that has jump seats. There isn't much room and the battery would probably fit back there. Other than some extra space and the ability to recline your seat back you are not getting much out of it. I think I have seen 4 or 5 different businesses besides Orkin using 4G Xcabs. That's all I want out of a Tacoma two seats a bed and as little luxury as possible.

The KBB numbers are certainly flawed but they’re based off of data not Internet forum opinions.
The numbers are either high for both - Pro retains more value. Low for both - Pro retains more value. Pro numbers are even better than Raptor - Pro retains more value. Even if Raptor numbers were adjusted a couple K up and the Pro a couple K down, the Pro would have retained more value.
Unless you actually have one of each of these to trade in for the same vehicle or sell outright, it would be impossible to verify these numbers. But KBB got data from somewhere - actual sales/transactions, so that’s the only data they and we have to work with.

I never understood people complaining so much about losing under seat storage. There’s not a lot of storage space to begin with. I have a Jack, first aid kit and a few other recovery items. If that amount of storage is a deal breaker then you’d probably be better off in a 4Runner. You have either a 6ft or 5ft bed to play with and there are plenty of aftermarket storage solutions for the bed, and you have a ton of cargo space to utilize.

I keep ratchet straps, tow rope, jack/jackstand, wood block, chock, GMRS radio, FAK, shackles, tire repair gear, surfboard tailgate pad, and a beach blanket, plus a few other things. That storage is indispensable
