Have you tried using the control arm as your spring compressor? traditional spring compressors are scary AF, i just marked the alignment tabs, loosened the cam bolts, disconnected the sway bar, loosened the shock nut, then dropped the whole assembly down with a floor jack. this removed load on the spring in a controlled manner that then allowed me to adjust the coilover preload collar.

Not 100% following, like undoing the LCA from the hub, drop the bottom of the shock out, then crank preload?

These Elka coilovers only have the 1 preload ring instead of the normal 2 rings which I find weird. image.jpg
The wet is wd40 I sprayed in to wash off the threads not shock fluid lol

Indeed. Cottonwood is cool, the first few miles until you reach the canyon can be someone boring and tedious with the washboard. Also over the last year or 2 they changed it to camping in reserved designated spots only. I know people still like to go up to the cave to camp, but technically you could get harassed by a park ranger for it if they drove out there.

ok yeah your shocks are configured quite differently than mine (6112). Below is a random pic I snagged off TW, but you can see the springs go all the way to the perch and there’s a single nut at the top that releases the shock rod, allowing you to drop the shock off the spring by releasing the LCA. Maybe there’s a way you can do something similar to the bottom of the shock?

Forgot to get a picture but Mcvays tucked my exhaust up pretty high. Cleared the rear cross member for my RCI skids by far. Not the prettiest welds or bends but who am I to judge. 250 for a short re route around the transfer case feels a bit high but so is everything nowadays? And they were great on timing + accurate phone quote so I'd use them again. Transfer skid went on. Got Pre load figured out on my coilovers, and it rides noticeably stiffer now, but I'll probably drop it back about 1/4" .

When adjusting I ended up getting more than 2:1 ratio for height to preload added. Handful of people familiar w these trucks said thats about typical ratio. It sits perfectly level, but Ideally I want about 1/3" - 1/2" rake for my needs. Dumb question: Do springs still settle some after just adding preload?

New pads and rotors go on tomorrow(assuming fedex doesnt delay my damn shipment AGAIN) and then Moab by Friday night :D

Glad McVays worked out for you

And I think I paid $200 for a chop and reroute on the mule like 5 years ago so I got ripped off and you got a fair rate o_O

Anyone in the market for some range finding binos? I'm selling my Leica 3200.com and bino harness. They're a little over a year old, glass is perfect, body is perfect. I have the original box and all paperwork. Applied ballistics software, superb glass, fast accurate ranging. Will give dope to 1000 without a kestrel paired, further with a kestrel. I shot my bull at 890 yards last year with their range and dope call. Easily ranges to about 2500, and I've ranged big rocks to about 3700. I'll throw in my kuiu harness with them. Only reason for selling them is I want a little different setup for wind calls, and Leica can't do what I want. If interested pm me and we can chat about it. Asking $2k.

If you spend just a little more you can hire someone to take the shot for you. Just giving you a hard time. That is a nice setup.

Where's the fun in that??!?! I'm starting to really enjoy this long(er) range shooting, but it is absurdly expensive.

Agreed, but something about knowing you can reach out and touch something over 1,300 meters away is gratifying. I found it becomes a lot more fun when you start seeing what you can do with less tech tough. I remember when .338 Lapua was all the rage and now 6.5 is what seems like everyone is shooting and for good reason. Though getting back to my roots with .308 on a 90's style M40A1 is a lot more fun for me. Nothing like chucking $5 bills down range. LOL... Good luck with your sale.

I had a .280AI built and it is incredible. I'm going to have a 6.5 (prc likely) built for matches once funds allow. Load development on the 280 yielded this group. 5 rounds, 100 yards, 1" circle. There's no question on a miss with this thing, it's not the equipment, it's me.
