Well APS just cancelled school tomorrow because of the teacher protest. They waited till 5pm to tell teachers and families no school for students. Now all those parents have to figured out what to do, but most other districts called it days ago so parents could prepared for tomorrow...:annoyed:

Anyone have any ideas on how to prevent this metal on metal wear? Paint isn't durable enough. From my interwebs searches, i may be the only one in the world and in history that has this problem (sarcasm but i cant find any experiences on the web).

Both parts are aluminum. They rub, the raw metal tarnishes and leaves black stuff on my hands every day.

    any thoughts or neat ideas?

Obvious option to me is to put some sort of sacrificial wear layer over the latch. Maybe heat shrink or a road bike inner tube?

Hard to tell what dimensions you're working with from the picture, but a 700x18 (the smallest diameter I know of) road bike tube might be small enough to friction-fit over the bar. Otherwise, if you have enough tolerance between the bar and the plate, cut an inner tube open and spiral-wrap it around the bar with a wrap of electrical tape or sturdy thread to finish the ends.

If you want to be real fancy you could slit the tube along its length and then stitch it around the bar.

Heat shrink might work if an inner tube is unavailable.

The obvious and easiest solution (sarcasm) is to machine a slot into the camming bar and insert a strip of delrin.

That big stuff is pretty durable, repeated contact I'm sure will wear over time. At this point, you are the guinea pig. :D Inner tube will probably have a similar life expectancy since the material is being pinched and rolled each time the latch is thrown.
The shrink tube is cheap and at 6', you can double it up or just reapply as needed.

Honestly, Kwikset is as good as any for residential. I promote/sell Commercial Grade 1 Schlage hardware. But the residential line of Grade 2 Schlage is garbage in comparison.
Kwikset is synonymous with "cheap lock" but they have been doing residential hardware for longer than anyone else. They bought out Weiser a decade ago, which was another decent residential brand.
At the end of the day, your front/back door has a wooden or fiberglass frame that has 3/4" of material holding the latch or bolt back from the inside of the home and is easily kicked in.
I suggest a security strike plate for the frame, they are generally larger than the existing strike plate, they are mortised into the frame and have longer screws that hopefully hit the actual stud somewhere behind the frame. Then burgler Billy has to kick harder.

Just remember to lock your doors.
Install a Ring Camera or something similar, I have two.
Keep the porch lights on at night. Even better to put them on a timer so they work when you're gone on vacation.
A dog or two certainly wouldn't hurt anything.

My front door. The deadbolt strike is a Kwikset security strike, and I think 2 of the 4 screws are hitting the stud. The bottom plate is called an ASA strike and is commercial. The size is the only difference from residential, I installed this frame in my house and had it machined like that.
Notice the tiny bit of material between the edge of the strike and the frame moulding, that's all that keeps the damn thing secure.

Back door, similar with a full lip strike instead of ASA.
Has even less frame material to kick in...

And I do have Kwikset 400T knobs on the door, with old style KW deadbolts. I sleep soundly at night and don't worry about shit when I'm gone.

Hotels are about the only living situation with a metal door frame. Some apartments as well.
    But most houses are wood.

Not sure if any of you are on Facebook and are familiar with “Joe Joe.”
