The .308, along with the .30-06 will do pretty much everything when properly tuned. One of my favorite guns is the stupid simple Ruger GSR. 16" barrel with a flash hider, mauser action, and it's magazine fed. You can load it to shoot anything from prairie dogs to moose. Probably not gonna reach out to 1k yards with the 16" barrel, and it's noisy as hell with it being that short, but I'd take it almost anywhere and feel perfectly-gunned. And you can get it in an 18" if you need a few more FPS. You can mount a long eye relief pistol scope on it, or remove the rails/rear site and put a hunting scope on it. There's a ton of rifles that do certain things better, but I love my GSR as an all around truck/hunting gun. I enjoy shooting it more than the AR15's

Mine's left handed because I'm special like that

Dude! I love my gunsite scout. I added the XS iron sight rail that allows a rear mounted optic with a nice little 2-7x32 and changed out the muzzle brake and that thing is sweet. I got mine right when they were released and picked up a normal one as I am right handed and ordered a lefty for my weird buddy when they released that. He got the green stock on his and I am a bit jealous.
My favorite rifle to shoot is an old Marlin 336 30-30 lever action I bought when I was 16 from a dude in the parking lot of the hardware store I worked at who needed money for Christmas. I tore it apart and customized it 10 years or so ago and I love shooting it.

Thanks! Furthest I've ever shot an animal. Conditions were absolutely perfect. Had they not been, I would have put him to bed and tried again the next morning. He didn't drop right away. He went about 35 feet, bedded down and died. Double lunged him with one shot, bullet ended up in the offside hide. Second bullet deflected off a rib and ended up a little back. Both fatal.

If it was their new tube hc rear I would. I need to order that...

I live about 4 miles from the california border. I can throw the GSR with a 5rd mag in the truck along with a 5 shot revolver (properly stored and secured of course) and remain legal if I'm offroad

Seriously though -- If I'm not paying attention and cross into CA on a dirt road in the middle of nowhere with an AR and a bunch of 30rd mags, I'm in big trouble real quick.

I'm trying to get pairs of pistol caliber revolvers/lever guns

I need a .44 revolver and a .22 lever to finish up my collection of .22/.38/.357/.44.

I've got a mare's leg .44 model '94 that really hurts to shoot lol

Do you mean like this? This one is ported so it’s actually pretty tame for what it is. I call it the clown gun. I got it in a trade years ago and did a little work to it. It’s a Ruger and I’m not attached to it.

Best deal out there is the Ruger .22 wrangler. I have Ruger wheel guns in: .22 single six in 22lr and 22 mag. A 22lr wrangler fixed site and the one with adjustable sites. Ruger vaquero in 44lc. The .44 clown gun. My 357 was a bucket list Colt Python.

The only real wheel gun I want is a Schofield. Caliber doesn't matter.

I’m always like. This is the last gun I need and my wife rolls her eyes. Although when I found the python she was like just go fucking buy it but I’m ordering a new purse. DEAL!

But now if you want another weapon you can just threaten to shoot the horse!

I've been doing that for years, doesn't mean much anymore. Lol. Had one get his hoof caught in a fence, I called her and told her bring a pistol... she did, but he didn't need shot...

My grandpa had a cattle farm when I was a kid and he got a horse for me and one for my sister. After she went to college I was responsible for the death of an old broken down quarter horse that my girlfriend’s grandmother had allowed a guy to put on her farm which had no livestock. Let’s just say I was a teenager, I might have been hunting a little before dawn and yeah. Dead horse. Long story short, my sister got back from school in the spring and was like. Where is my horse? To which I said, well. You no longer have a horse. I have a horse that you can ride if you ask nicely though. The old man’s name was Olly that got my sisters horse as a replacement. I don’t think she ever forgave me for that.
