I'm no electrician, but I seem to recall reading/hearing that "drain wires" are used in shielded wiring; situations where electromagnetic interference may be an issue, such as the wire to your microphone. They are usually bare wire and are often only grounded at one end. That could explain your mystery bare wire that doesn't seem to have a grounding point.

Sorry I can't offer any input on why your dome light isn't working, but I'd wager you can rule that bare wire out as the culprit.

EDIT: Found this regarding drain wires.

Exactly! I posted for comedic purposes because I shot a hole in my beautiful truck…and it was hilarious. I was also looking for advice on the wiring to get my lights working again. I’m new to TW so I didn’t know how butthurt people got that there are other opinions than their’s lol. I have laughed at most of the comments. Yall are hilarious.

A gun not ready to fire (other than the safety on) is just used for target practice and not self defense...

Or have big dogs that will keep the attacker occupied long enough for you to be ready to defend yourself....

Pretty sure butchers use a .22LR to put cows down, my uncle was a butcher, he walked em in and sent em out ready for the grill or whatever... lol

I think they typically use captive bolt stunners that use purpose-made .22 caliber cartridges that are essentially blanks, not actual projectiles.

I still can't figure out why people have guns in the house? I just bird watch...and stuff.

Sometimes I get really lucky and spot a coyote or fox. Can't wait to see a one of the many new released Canadian wolves.

I'm honestly surprised that your hot-tub doesn't have a built in stable bench by now.

I shot a deer from my bedroom window one morning back in the 1900's. My grandma came flying in. I think she thought I had killed myself. I was like, oh I guess that was loud. Sorry, it was standing right in the front yard. It was a large farm. Plenty of acreage but after that my grandfather imposed a no shooting guns in the house rule. The only ND I ever experienced was with a .22 when I was a teenager. Completely my negligence. That time my grandma yelled. NO SHOOTING IN THE HOUSE! To my relief I thought, well at least she is still alive.
