Given the proven and total unreliability of your 3rd (not best) gen vehicle while on a mission other than merely getting groceries, I highly suggest an investment into a higher powered GMRS radio so we can all be able to hear you and thus be able to stand around drinking high quality craft beers on the roadside whilst you are under the truck fiddling with transmission bits in a feeble, yet partially successful attempt to regain motive power.

Shellshock made such a great argument for that radio, along with a partially wonderful endorsement from AZ Jason, that you shoul immediately order it. The cool thing is if you go to the Midland website, add the radidio to the cart and go trhough it all including entering your email address, and then cancel the order, in mere moments, Midland will send you an email with a 10% off code to entice you to revice your thought process and go back and place the order.

See? I just saved you $16 on your new radio. You owe me a beer!

I probably owe Shellshock a beer too, I had ordered a supposedly wonderful, yet hopelessly complex handheld that in the end, had no more power than my current Midland. After seeing his comment on the 275, I quickly cancelled that order and switched to the 275 since it's got double the power and is simple enough that even a guy like me has a chance of at least being able to find the on switch.

Certainly not the place for someone with little resistance to peer pressure.

I’m lucky, I have no problem at all in resisting either peer pressure or temptation to buy shiny things. :anonymous:

I've had issues with my Baofeng UV 9G hand held radio. Poking around the net, this Nagoya 771 Antena seems to be a popular upgrade. I'll find out in KenTWucky.

I've also made a leveling platform to store the Tire Table @pearing had his minions build. It may double as a sleeping platform.

Interesting, NotaRubicon loves the UV-5G, as far as budget radios goes at any rate...
What kind of issues have you been having?
At least you have the option to upgrade the antenna, unlike some of us.

    Nice.
I was looking at the Nagoya 771 last night.
That and the radioddity RD-332 had good reviews.

I love that it has a "fun" button!
Can I get my wife one of those?

Btw, it's only 18 watts, not the advertised 20 watts.
And the meter only reads 15 watts. hmmm.

    He did!
But if I'd seen that review before buying the one I did (then cancelled and ordered the one I'm actually getting), I would have ordered that one just because the background picture behind Mr. Radio guy made me laugh.
Also, I did like the butt plug comment.

Intermittent reception and broadcasting. Sometimes it worked really well, other times...not so much. I don't use it enough to pinpoint the real issue. According to a couple of vids I watched, the antenna is the usual culprit. I had to trim about 1/16", maybe 3/32's off the bottom of the plastic on the antenna to get a good connection. Trimming the antenna was mentioned in the vids. I used a heated utility knife to help melt the plastic. Made the cutting a lot easier.
