Have you tried making sure the button is firmly pressed every time you attempt to broadcast? That can make a difference, or so I'm told.
Maybe you just need a new antenna?

Notarubicon mentioned the antenna thing when I checked his review before I bought mine, and yup, the antenna was an absolute bitch to get seated well. I've since gone to an external antenna primarily. It only takes a few seconds to switch back if I want to go handheld.

I couldn't tell ya :) My only guess would be a dominant trait that appeared in your local herd or perhaps they appear different depending on the kind of winter they experienced.

Now that the radio issue is figured out. I hope guys aren't going to be cackling like a bunch of old ladies when on the trail.

I'm pretty ignorant about this radio stuff. What makes the Baofeng so special?
Issues have not been tested yet. TBD. There may be cackling, but not in the way you expect.

Timm must have one. It's a good radio, along with probably a dozen other radios.

There's so much shit embedded in these things that it's hard to understand it all unless you're a radio nerd.

Crazy, but even though I just ordered a more higher powered, plug-in and easy to use radio and I have a couple handheld Midlands, I keep thinking of going back and ordering that fancy ass handheld too, just because I like gadgets, most of which I seldom use anywhere near as much as i should. Grrr.
