    So. Many. Stickers.
I have four. Two of them are identical and the idea was to have Trail radios that would last longer than a day so I could just swap them out while on the go. Unfortunately one of them has incessant programming issues and continues to be a pain in the ass.

My older one is a smaller battery pack, however the antenna is tuned perfectly and it does excellently when I'm out at Windrock and seems to last for a long time as well.

Once I got my license, I treated myself to a much more powerful radio with variable power settings and a few extra features plus the aforementioned ABBREE skinny antenna which does an excellent job of allowing me to talk to people way farther away than I realistically need to.

That radio is a lot of fun as I can listen in on all kinds of chatter from across half the state and all of these radios have FM capability as well for receiving. And if you play around with a few of the settings, they can sound like old-timey radios which is excellent for my aesthetic at camp.

But I think my favorite parts of the radios are the interchangeable antenna and the programmability. Or the fact that they can scan like a ridiculous number of channels that I have no business being on.

Late this morning, I made a trip into town. Figured I'd score a small battery chainsaw, and a few other odds and ends. I also had to pick up a prescription. Almost every stop took longer than expected, especially the prescription, which was supposed to be ready this morning, though in all honesty, I hadn't gotten the confirmation text yet. The nice young lady told me she was quite sure it was being worked and if I wasted a few minutes, she'd see if she could push it through. About 5 minutes later, I get the text. I turn to leave and run into a guy that grew up next door to me.

We talked a bit, he saw my truck and got all excited about what I was telling him about Tigerton. I guess he has a Jeep and is always looking to get out. I told him he's welcome to tag along if he wants, and it looks like he will probably come along in August.

From talking to him, he's chewed some of the same dirt we have in the Crooked Lake to Lakewood and Athelstane areas. He's quite disappointed that the pipeline got shut down. I may take him up to Elton for a day trip.

All the radio info here is fun and interesting, but I gotta ask... what do radio nerds talk about with other radio strangers? Do they just discuss their radio equipment and how to talk to strangers farther away? We have smart phones and the interwebs these days.

My goals in upgrading mine was just to improve my communication with you fools on the trails and maybe for use in emergency situations. I don't really have much interest in scanning for strangers 50 miles away to chat with.

A good friend of mine is really big into ham. Thousands ‘invested’. When I asked what they all talk about, he kinda shrugged and was vague about it. I think it’s just a reason to have cool and unusual stuff. They all keep hoping for a major disaster so they can use it all.

A place I used to pick up from in Middleton had a Sandhill that would fight it's reflection in their windows. It was funny as hell to watch.

We have a neighborhood turkey they attack cars pretty much every morning on my way to work. I’m kinda shocked that nobody has run it over yet.

I figure others have bigger ones if needed. I have a bigger one that I wouldn't usually bring along.

Plus, around the house, I have some branches to trim, and this will do just fine.

2 blocks from work Wednesday morning I had to stop for a parade of 12 turkeys slowly making their way across the road.

    PXL_20250318_133239652.jpg

Earlier this week we had a pair of geese decide a mulch pile right next to the main entrance to our home office was the perfect spot to build a nest and lay eggs. Can't move em. Big time fines for messing with migratory birds. Those MFers can get mean too. This afternoon it seems they had relocated to another spot by a warehouse entrance.

I haven't messed with any turkeys. But, I did get into a fight with a rooster a couple of years ago. It was pretty embarrassing and shameful and hilarious really.

My Grandparents (on my dad's side) had a couple geese on their farm.
