Any recommendations for an inexpensive steelie or spare wheel to match my 17x8.5 0 offset wheels?

I just carry a spacer to go with my factory steel spare to clear the oversized spare.

Care to tell us what wheels (manufacturer, model, color) you have? Tough to 'match' a wheel based on size alone.

Not sure why the make & color of the normal 4 wheels would matter... You normally don't see the spare when it's tucked up underneath the truck bed (assuming that's where OP intends to keep his). 17x8.5 0-offset should be all the necessary info one needs to find a correct wheel (we already know it's 6x5.5 lug pattern).

Closest thing I found to that is:
    https://www.roughcountry.com/product/black-steel-wheel-rc51-7650
(17" steel wheel selection has always been dismal for some reason)

That said, a 1" or 1.25" spacer used with the stock spare wheel is likely what I would do as well if i were running different-offset wheels. The stock Sport spare steel wheel is 17x7.5" with I believe a +30mm offset, so a 1.25" spacer would put that right close to 0. The inch narrower width shouldn't matter since it's a spare unless you're running tires wider than 285 (in which case something like a 255/80R17 (33") or 255/85R17 (34") can be used, which will also gain you a bit more clearance under the rear too).

Thanks for the suggestion, $85 is a great price. I'm running 285/70r17 tires. Would a 17x9 spare with 3 17x8.5 cause any issues if I needed to limp off a trail or get home on the freeway?

Not at all (after all, it is just a spare). As long as the tire is similar overall diameter, you're fine (same goes for a 255/80R17 on a stock steel wheel). The overall tire diameter is all that's important to keeping your truck systems happy.
