Thanks! Saved it to Google maps as a restaurant to check out.

Is that the Chippewa River? Anytime I'm on HWY 70 in that area, I always look over at the river and think about how nice that area would be for kayaking.

Man, I need to do more fishing this year!

North fork of the mighty Flambeau, a mile or so upstream from the fun rapids.

I get so paranoid about forgetting to tighten something, that I usually go back 3 or 4 times after and still feel like I forgot something.

Yeah, I’ve gotten that sense that many ham operators are “unique.”
I suspect some would only help out if you can provide a sworn notarized statement that you’ve never used a GMRS radio without a license. But in the end, if there’s actually a need, I’m sure most would be happy to rise to the occasion.

Quick and easy installation of this today. I didn't drill into the dash, just used strong velcro as I'm not certain about the position yet.

The antenna is a bit bigger than I was expecting. Not sure about this position either, but the mount came with a LOT of extra cable, so I have options. Someday when I get a roof rack I'm sure it will go up there.

Now I hafta do some learnin'! Read something about tuning the antenna, so I'm gonna check on that first and then start creeping on the airwaves.

For now I have the antenna on the roof and the cable out the back window.

Nothing is permanent. Tuck and go with the wires.
    I'll hardwire it later.

I re-routed my antenna cable this afternoon...meant to do it since I put the external antenna on and, well, never got around to it. My DMM has slots to route wires (USB/antenna) nice and neatly. So now, all you see of my external antenna cable is about 3" right by my cradle. And since I have a 3D printer, this evening I think I'll CAD me up a mount for the USB power adapter to mount it next to the head unit, behind the bezel, so that will be all neat too.
