Seriously, especially when pressure accumulates within casing.

But I don't hear it coming out of the breather, now to think about it.

You have a vent problem not a gasket problem

Somebody should also pull the brake drums and see if gear oil is leaking at the axle seals too

If you have pressure, the air needs to escape from somewhere. Probably the weakest point. It should be the breather, but if thats clogged, maybe the gasket material, which could be the leaking that you see. Another place could be the axle seals.

I would replace the breather just for piece of mind. Plus its like $4. Then let the shop reseal it for free, and see if you have leaks after that. Id probably also check the breather hose for kinks

@BullComa4.0L you've got people replying in multiple threads for this same issue. Ask a moderator to possibly combine the 2 threads? The one in the 2nd gen section would probably get more eyeballs on it..

I never did a tacoma 3rd member before. Is that gasket absolutely necessary or could you just use something like the permatex gear oil rtv mentioned in the previous post by it self?

The gasket will help fill in some of the voids and non-flat areas.
I'd use a gasket AND RTV.

Threw out my old gasket, cleaned the mating surfaces, and used RTV like in the YouTube videos. No leaks.

breather reroute and replace done some years ago. Personal preference is two way valve.

The oem gasket is fine, 99.999% of us drive around with a 3rd member sealed by the same gasket that doesn't leak and never has. The shop ether gacked up the sealing surface or didn't seal it properly, simple as that. In that kind of job after cleaning everything well, I'd have coated both surfaces with a permatex sealer and installed the gasket, I'd bet good money it wouldn't leak and there'd be zero drama. There's no trick to it, the job just needs to be done right and the shop didn't do that. Don't over think it, check the sealing surfaces for irregularities, replace and reseal the new gasket.

Wouldn't I see oil leaking through the drum? It would be all over my wheel right?
    Just asking

Okay. I bought a breather kit. I'm just worried if it will work better then the oem.
And there is no hose on my breather there is only the cap.

Tell them to get their torque wrench re-calibrated...

When they look at you sideways, you'll know yet another contributing factor to your repetitive leak.

OEM has the cap at the axle. Probably can still get clogged, which is why you can extend it, with a hose

Much more air flow right? I mean that's what I think.

I don't see it as more airflow. I see it as moving the breather away from a place that it can get clogged

It doesn't need airflow, it just needs a vent path to atmosphere
