If its anything like CB's, do not bundle the antenna cable it will create what they call a "choke", they say to spread the cable out.

Uh oh!!! All this radio talk!
I had a mounted CB in my 2017 Tacoma but I sold that truck with everything in it. After I purchased my ‘21 Tacoma I picked up the Portable Midland before the
August 2021 Boulder Lake camping trip. Looks like I’m the only one left with a CB. :pout:

I guess I haven’t been on a group ride/campout in a while and will need to upgrade before the fall camping trip.

I initially was going to make it out of aluminum sheet I had laying around, but figured that would be too easy...anyone could do that. Shame it will be hidden.

Thanks to @Pixeltim, I'm doing crap I'd never imagined...(and spending money...)

I have 2 CBs...sitting on the shelf. Not sure why as I have no plans on ever using them again. Scrap 'em Clyde.

Most hams stick to the rules for the most part. Once you get to those power levels and ranges, rules exist for a reason.

it’s like anything else, you don’t follow the rules and it’ll get shut down.

you can listen / talk to the international space station with a handheld radio if you know what your doing.

I’ve got a buddy that keeps trying to convince me to get my ticket, but the really interesting stuff is bit too complicated for anyone that isn’t all-in.

The stuff you can do with it is pretty neat. There was even a project I heard about where a group of hams were trying to get control of old discarded satellites. (On the up and up, not being pirates).

I did listen in to a few weather nets or whatever that’s called. It’s a good thing for people to do this stuff.

A lot of the storm chasers use it too and the nws broadcasts

You can definitely go wild but there’s a lot of stuff that’s fairly easy as well. Like anything else, it can quickly turn into a very expensive hobby lol especially when you start to get into base stations and higher licensing tiers. I’ve just got the technician license (lowest level) which is plenty for what I do.

Glad you caught it before the wheel came off. Would've been a real challenge steering and braking on 1 front tire. I was super lucky. I was doing about 65 mph when mine came loose and I was heading toward the concrete barrier on a 90* curve in the Rockies. That little voice in my head was telling me, "This one's gonna hurt." Thankfully, only my wallet took the hit.

I bought a HF torque wrench when I got home.

We usually have yearly family/friends road trips with 3-4 vehicles and we use the CB’s. Some of the areas have zero cell service so it always came in handy when someone had to stop for gas or restroom breaks. IMG_1818.jpg

    Haha.
    I just got back.
35% off a badland snatch block,
9" reciprocating saw pruning blades, a small plastic ammo box for utensils.... and a free packing blanket. $35.

All I wanted was a packing blanket.

Kinda hard not to bundle 20 feet of cable. I have it zip tied up right in back of the firewall under the dash. Not sure what else to do with it. Anybody know if this is an issue for a GMRS antenna cable vs. CB?
