Go for 275 or stick with 265 tires

Looking at tires to fit the 17 x 9 (17x8 if other won't work) rims I am getting.
Want biggest tire that will fit without any trimming ti fill out the wheel well
( no 285 for now). Only few 275 to pick from and expensive. Will have about 2.4" lift in front with AAL in back if this helps. Also, strictly road but want to keep a some what aggressive truck look ( and my mpg).

Tired of thinking about it, and want to get them bought, installed and enjoyed

265s are more readily available and probably cheaper...the size difference isn't worth the extra loot IMO

 

keep in mind you dont want too narrow of a tire on too wide of a rim....make sure whatever combo you choose, that the tire will be capable of filling out the wheel properly.....because too narrow of tire on a truck's wheel will look really stupid. Pay attention to the width range of the tires you're looking at in order to help your decision.

Edit: also, just because a given tire CAN fit on a given wheel doesnt mean this "narrow look" wont occur....you dont want the sidewalls looking like they are "reaching" out for the rim's edge.

 

I like my 275s. 1.75 in front and just the TSB in the back and they only rub a little where the mudflap attaches to the cab. With your setup, I think you would have very little to no rubbing, and if there was rubbing it would probably be pretty easy to trim. Pics in my gallery

 

So if I stick with some goody Duratraks at 265/70/17, then I would have to stick with a 17x8 rim size? If so, the bs is 4.5, but what og the offset, most are at +18mm

check my gallery for 275 70 17s, they rub uca on hard turns reverse. other than that very happy.

 

Yea I just checked that size with 3 different tires on tire rack....the rim width range is 7-9in wide with 8in being the middle of course. I'd choose the "middle" or average width for the tire.
That way, your tire-to-wheel fitment will make the shoulders of the tires mount nice and "square"

 

The offset would be zero for a 4.5" BS rim that is 8" wide.

 

Understand, the website I looked at had the MotoMetal 956 at +18mm on the 17x8 rims. Haven't looked at to many 17x8 rims I like only the 956 or 955 from MM. But if the Duratraks are spaced up to 9" then should be fine.

The +18mm would be 5.25" backspacing on an 8" rim. You could run 265's on those, no problem.

 

Sweet, and that would stick out of side by how much more than stock.
Your the expert and this sounds good...on a side note, if I wanted to go 285 with these, would it work?

I'm interested in this info also. My guess is you want less BS to run 285's or you would rub the UCA! So 4.5" or maybe 4.25" in which case the tires would stick out a little.

 

With the 5.25" backspaced, 8" wide rims, the rims will stick out 1.25" more than stock (0.25 from the decreased backspacing, 1" from the width)

You would not be able to fit 285's on the 5.25" BS rims, but you would be able to on the 4.5" BS ones.
