Hey guys, so i have a 22’ Tacoma. Got in my truck the other day and was having issues starting then would run then shut off. Finally it threw a code for Crankshaft Position sensor. Seems such low mileage for this to fail. I know the 16’s and 17’s had a recall done but has anyone seen this happen on new gen 3’s with such low mileage? Truck is fine now but its intermittent. No issues with the harness and no rat issues. Just a faulty sensor that seems to be going in and out

Have you done any work? Highly doubt the issue will just stop happening

Here is a video if you are planning on swapping the sensor yourself.

Oh yes of course i plan on replacing it. I ordered a new one from Toyota just waiting for it to come in. I should of reiterated my main question was just if this is a common issue or if i just got that one unlucky sensor

We've seen weak batteries trigger this code.

Did it also cause hard starts, sputtering after starting? Battery sounds strong on initial start

    *Update*
I should have taken a picture for you guys but I apologize and did not. So, i replaced the sensor and the code was still there. Truck still running terribly. So i let the Cat cool down and removed the plug again. I really moved the rubber boot back this time as before i just checked to make sure the wires visibly looked ok. As a mechanic of 11 years i should have know better and done a pull test i was unfortunately lazy and didnt want to mess around with the rubber boot. Anyways, i now performed the pull test and the signal wire popped right out and not with the pin…. It was hanging on by a thread hence the intermittent code. Fun fact of the day, a Caterpillar 299 skidsteer had the same connector on their crank shaft position sensor. So, yep thats right, snip snip and we are back to normal now. Not sure exactly why this happened its very unfortunate especially coming from Toyota. At the end of the day sometimes…. Things just happen
