Any woodworkers?

Had about 2 1/2 hours out in the shop after work. Ebony plugs have been added to the doors and the pulls installed. Doors still need to be drilled for hinges and mounted.

 

Delivering the plaque in a couple of weekends, but took the time to make an adjustment. The front/back plexiglass holding the flower in place is shiny and reflective. I masked off most of the front plexiglass that is inside the hole and sprayed the outer portion that sits on the wood with satin acrylic sealer. I like the way you can see the plastic but the light does not "glare out" by reflecting room light.

The back plexiglass is not satin-treated to allow full light through, but the gloss is rather annoying to me.

What I have learned on this, not just how to use a router, makes me wonder how I got by before.

What little time I have had on the weekends has been spent taking down a birch tree in our front yard. It's been dying off over the last few years so it's time.
The tools. Ego cordless stuff works well. The pole pruner extends.
pole pruner will handle a pretty good sized branch.

After today's work. My neighbor supervising us, lol. My Betty is behind the tree.
The debris is tied up and ready for trash pickup. They don't start with yard waste until April.

Just working a little at a time to bring this tree down. Im getting old and this kind of work takes its toll on my back now, but I do what I can. I want to get most of the branches off before the leaves come out. The sap is really flowing this time of year and it drips heavily when a branch is cut off.

I feel like it is going slowly, however I have to keep reminding myself that much of this build has been firsts for me. First solid panel cabinet construction, first time with leg indents, first time with ebony plugs, first time drilling for adjustable shelves, first time with glass doors, and first time installing hinges is yet to come. I just keep taking it one step at a time. Hopefully be done in the next week or so.

 

Perfection comes at a price. Almost always that price includes "a hellacious amount of time". Plan ... measure ... plan ... measure ... experiment ... plan ... <many steps later> ... measure 5 times ... cut once ...

You are achieving much by following this plan.

 

Normally wouldn't get this excited for some wood but this thing came out freaking nice!

I definitely wouldn't have been able to make anything as nice

I would've used the wrong wood (or cheap wood), the edges would've received too much of a bevel, I would've used too much of whatever is used to seal it, etc.

I'll leave the woodworking to those that know better!

My only hesitation is drilling into it for the 9 t-nuts I'll be using; 5 for the seat bottom and 4 for the backrest.

Seeing as how I went M8 vs the traditional 1/4 - 20, I believe a 3/8" bit will suffice.

Greene & Greene Inspired Cherry Whiskey Cabinet is complete! Cloud lifts, leg indents, and ebony plugs all were a challenge.

It took me about one month to complete this working on the weekends and after work sometimes.

You forgot the lock that only your wife has the key for.

 

I wanted to use something that I was familiar with, and did not want to risk runs and drips. I used Walrus Oil Furniture Butter. It is an oil and wax combo that you just wipe on. Super easy to apply.
