Met a nice young lady in South Mountain Park yesterday from England on vacation. Chatted briefly, found out she does dig history so I told her about the Internment camp ruins near Maricopa and gave her my best directions. Fearful I gave har bad directions I drove down today to verify. But they people on the Gila River Community had closed the road I told er to use. Made me feel guilty. So I drove around the other dirt roads to find an alternate path and put a hole in one of my Wildpeak AT4s.

Can I get a collective "Awwww, poor baby!"?

    I'm guessing those weren't E rated AT4's?

Was she cute? If yes you get a tisk tisk... If no you get an Awwww poor baby.

It's like you knew I, Champion of C Rated tires and Banisher of E Rated Clod Hoppers, was coming along shortly. LOL
Well, @RichochetRabbit - now you gotta settle the debate. Were they C or E and was the hole in the sidewall or tread?

I appreciate that! Knock on wood, everyone has been very kind and supportive so far, but let’s see if this continues through the seasons.

You should have offered to drive her there duh.

And yeah Murphy road got blocked off with rubble, at the canal crossing before the dairy farms. Were there others? Sounds like the locals are getting pissed.

I did, but it would have been the last day in US with her friends, and she may have just been polite about liking the advice. And I am old while she is young.

I usually drive south on N Orchard, as it is one of 2 or 3 roads within 10 miles that cross the canal. The other one closer to I-10 was closed but "open to farm offices for locals". That is the worst part of going there. The other option is starting driving washboard road to the west end an east-west farm road and driving back east 5 miles on washboard.

SL rated, but these were flat/gravel with some washboard ... never expected a flat. I heard the hissing from the treads ... must be a nail as I did not see an obvious bolt.

EDIT: Just found the offender. Looks like a nail 2 inches from the sidewall that is probably 1/8th in or less diameter.

She did not ask if I could guide to the place ... that seemed a hint. I am old and grumpy. If I owned a house here in AZ I would be yelling at punk kids to get off my "front gravel".

It would seem that my stock-suspension Tacoma can handle Schnebly Hill on Goodyears, but the Wildpeak AT4 can be defeated by a 1/4 in rock that lodges at the base of lugs on the tire surface. Even after pried out the lug was damaged enough to keep leaking. o_O

But DT gave me a new shoe for $45, so it could have been worse. :notsure:

Hmmm - rock through the tread. Where does that put us on the load range debate?
Do E's get a stiffer tread too? I don't know...

Good point. The weakness at the base of a "lug" was unexpected, and I did not hang around to find out if it was "repairable" under their policy. I may find out if this occurs again and I have no choice but to use my plug kit. Plug kit would void their "certificate" policy, but if it is the ONLY way I would.

Good discussion for those who run C and E over SL ... I am interested.
