I've been looking around for 2nd gen Tacoma, I've noticed a lot of listings that say a truck is a TRD Pro even though its obviously not. I check the vin#s on multiple websites and they do come back as "TRD Pro". I've noticed that its just the 2015 models and they all seem to be either TRD Sport or TRD Off Road models. Does anyone know what's going on here? Did Toyota just call every TRD model in 2015 a TRD Pro?

The dealers are likely trying to get you to buy, using false advertising. Call them out on it if youve done your research

I have one of those 2015 models and the sticker is TRD Offroad, not Pro. It has all the related options including 4wd, tow package, etc. but does not have the sporty TRD Pro options like the wheels and extra emblems, etc.

Funny, I've had the Vin ran for various reasons on my Pro. It comes back as an SR5 every time.

What website are you using to run the VIN?

Probably bad data entry on that site.

Probably because the dealer either doesn't know the difference or they purposely call it a pro to raise the price.

Just make sure if you go to buy one that it's really a TRD OffRoad, alot of that shenanigans goes on too where they have the stickers but they aren't a TRD OffRoad.

Only the TRD OffRoad and Pro have the locking rear diff.

People lie or didn't know the difference between TRD models. It's fairly common to see that in online listings for these trucks. I asked pointed questions about features and requested photos to back them up, but never actually found a Pro in the wild (not that I was looking/holding out for one).

It's not Toyota and it's not the used dealerships lying. For some reason VIN searches for these trucks are garbage and will not list the model of the truck correctly a lot of the time. The dealerships are just lazy and don't bother to double check what the correct model is.

    For 2nd gens:

TRD Sport = Hood scoop, painted grille, no e-locker
TRD Off Road = No scoop, chrome grille, rear e-locker
TRD PRO (2015 only) = Hood scoop, painted grille, rear e-locker.
